Sorry , not a VSTi but an effect. Could be worth a try if you're not ok with .exe files.... Heres my post from the freeware effects thread :-
Don't know if this has been mentioned yet as its a few years old... A channel strip tool with an EQ that can go pre or post compressor.. It also has the capability to side-chain the EQ and send that signal as the control input of the compressor.
I haven't tested it yet , but want to see how it stands next to my URS channel strip and Ozone etc, just for the sake of it like:)
The free version is the one at the top of the page.
Here http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/us/products/s triptool/striptool.htm
EDIT:- I just downloaded the Zip and realised it contains an install exe for this plug . I generally don't install anything unless its just a dll file, so that's me out unfortunately.
Anyway it looks like it could be worth a try if you're less cautious than me . I'd be interested to know how it compares to other channel strip plugs.

google up uniextract, then you can unpack executables you don't want to deal with.

Wow ...thanks Jimi , I never knew such a tool existed. I'll definitely give that a go for this plug and others that Ive cowered away from because of the .exe lottery
Cheers muchly

I recommend Sandboxie for installing programs, I had Uniextract on here, doesn't open all.
Then you just take the fake Operating system dll and jam it onto your real hard drive.

Newest os x version of Mario Paint composer? There's actually a mediafire link that comes up, but I'm unable to download! BTW If you want a cheesy soundfont you can get it in the Windows zip and use it anywhere.

mztk , is this the KVR "space in a URL bug" maybe? , I notice when youve put the url there , there's a space between the "s" and "t" of "striptool" in the URL. Try removing that space. Ive just looked at the site again to make sure and it still comes up for me here.
Dont know why url's have these spaces that appear when they're posted here on KVR , but hope that solves it for ya. Id be interested to know what you think of it.

Any or all of these? Earlier in the thread people posted about loving them, so hopefully they shouldn't be hard to find!
