Thanks everyone for the snare help. For some reason, I never though about modeling the individual parts of the drum before (and I'm a drummer, so shame on me). For my own poor, neglected snare sound I ended up using resonance and some compression/gain to get it to stand out more. It actually ended up sounding more like a clap than a snare hit... which I think will work well in my song.
Speaking of which, I'm sure it's going to be a last-minute entry for me again. Hoping to get some jam time in this weekend.

Archon1024 - Forget the Rain
Got my track finished earlier than expected thanks to a burst of inspiration during a jam session with my band mate. The core of the melody was actually played live on guitar and then converted to MIDI using Image-Line's new toy, Newtone. The MIDI track is played by two instances of P8 in a layer. Though I did spend a couple days cleaning, slicing up, and tweaking the MIDI track, I'm very impressed with how easy Newtone makes this task.
Workstation: FL Studio 9.8 (beta)
Superwave P8: 12 instances
Track FX: 4x compressor, 2x reverb, native EQ
Master FX: 1x compressor, brickwall limiter
Trickery: Newtone, slight volume automation, pitch bend automation
Sound overview:
Not sure if anyone will find this useful or not, but here's a quick rundown of the sounds I used and how I made them.
Kick: 3 instances, all single sine wave. 1x low rumble, 1x pitched high to low using LFO, 1x head attack with high resonance, compression
Clap: white and pink noise with high resonance and P8's delay banks
Pops: tri and pulse waves, no resonance, P8's delay
Hats: dual white noise, small resonance, different cutoffs for OSCs
Rain FX: dual white noise, white noise LFO on amp, white noise LFO on filter, moderate resonance, cutoff adjusts the strength of the downpour
Bass: dual pulse with PW mod from both LFOs at different rates, slight resonance, slow filter attack, compression
Lead Layer #1: dual pulse with PW mod on only one OSC, moderate resonance, slight filter fade-in, bit of gain required
Lead Layer #2: dual saw, moderate resonance, slight filter fade-in, bit of gain required, pitched -12 semitones
Gangsta Strings: dual saw, moderate resonance, high cutoff to keep them bright, P8's delay
Background Strings: dual saw, moderate resonance, slightly slow filter and amp attack

Nice post with useful explanations and the Newtone thing looks very good. Been recently going through audio to midi apps to write with voice, but nothing good so far although haven't tried Melodyne as it's just too pricey..
But not clear what compressors and limiters did you use? You mean the Classic series?

Sorry, forgot to mention the exact ones. I use TAL-Reverb-III and mda MultiBand. Also Fruity Limiter for the brickwall. I've been a fan of the TAL plugins since working with TAL NoiseMaker a few OSCs ago. I've looked into the Classic series, but the website is... weird... like it's a domain squatter page or something. I also keep meaning to try the Blockfish compressor, but never have gotten around to it.

Hello!
Just submitted my entry ( uiiuiiu - Only three seasons ).
I used 27 instances of Superwave P8 inside FL Studio 9.
In the master I had Modern exciter, Fruity Parametric EQ2 and Classic master limiter.
I only had one send channel occupied by Glace Verb.
Other effects used were :
Fruity free filter
Fruity Parametric EQ2
Fruity Delay ( the first very basic one )
Modern exciter
BootEQmk2
Glace Verb
TAL bitcrush
tape delay v1.2
Compressor AC1
Kick, snare and hats were first bounced to audio and one hit taken separately and repeated
through out the track.

"Hymn For the Lost Planet"
Mike777 (aka Michael John)
My entry uploaded. This is last in my 3 part series of works about Fractured Planet. A planet that became too unstable to live on and the people (and animals) were then transported safely to another planet. They lost their oceans and lakes, trees and forests. Now safe on another planet, they remember their lost planet with this solemn hymn.
Made with 1 instance of Superwave P8 in Sonar 8. Just the effects in Superwave used.

I decided to write some reviews this time. Really outstanding works and productions. Entries seem to get better each contest. Enjoy all of them!
5651 - A creative work with fantastic overlapping melody lines, creating a merge of engaging counterpoint! Some of the counterpoint moments are brilliant, like Bach. Not sure I hear a firm musical structure, but the wandering lines are fun to listen to. I like the synth lead sounds and modulations. Great work!
Only Three Seasons - Kind of an odd piece but very interesting. NICE drum track! How did you get that great snare hit? I like the starting chord pattern. THe mix is a little odd- very loud snare, soft strings. Musically it kind of wanders around, but starts to all gel in the last half. Nice change of mood at the end.
Forget the Rain - Nice start off with full sound/mix, deep bass, nice pads and string chops. Then a cool saw lead with some jazz grace notes here and there in the melodic line. A slick fusion type jam piece. Enjoyed it!
The Imposter - Very well structured work all parts fit superb in the mix and composition. Dig that bass line! Modulation sounds great on that bass. Kick and delay hits sound good. I like the mystery/suspense vibe. The imrpov lead is very melodically inventive. HIgh marks for melodic improv creativity. Superb work!
Everybody Wants to Play With Triplets - Great intro and NICE short build up to the main section! Great kick and snare sound! This is a very well crafted synth pop work, and shows off how great Superwave sounds in electronica pop. Superb flawless mix! You could easily add vocals to this.
She Wants Future Pop - I like the start of this- nice pads and happy melodic string lead on top. Bass and snare sound nice! I LIKE those modulated lead sounds! This piece has a happy vibe, with a very slight eastern feel. Dig the lead solo at 3:00, creative arrangement keeps it flowing. Enjoyed this piece a lot, it's like a sunny day.
Anonymous Call - A very mysterious mood! The random note variations create a musical sense of being 'lost', as was obviously intended. That detuned vibrato lead is spooky! This is a everything-has-gone-crazy mood and I think it's brilliantly made for that mood/feel. I could hear this in a sci-fi movie scene when the computers have malfunctioned. Or when you get a disturbing anonymous phone call!
Defin-8-ly - another one of you brilliant game-track type synth pop works. I like the unexpected key changes and creative melodic variations. Fun to listen and imagine you playing this. I'm in a better mood now- great work!
Three Beer Chicken Monkey - Nice R&B electro drum pattern. Nice mellow kick and snare sound! I like the whole chill vibe. The pad and string chops are delicate and have a light gentle feel. The last part of the piece starts to pick up energy and the chill changed to a let's-get-going mood. Enjoyed it!
sincerely yours - A great dramatic mood right off with the bass line and white noise, adding engaging widely panned lead motifs. Then the pads come in adding to the well developed musical foundation. Fantastic mix and brilliant ideas. But it ends to soon!
WarOfThe Plushies - Very nice cinematic work, nice to hear a well crafted theme. Nice buildup and climax up to 3:00. This piece gives a sense of victory. Brilliant piece of music.
Makkverk - I like this chill type synth pop. Nice string chord chops over steady bass. Great drum sound.
Ride the Saw - Great intro with nice kick and pan/delay in the pads is nice. Great chord pattern. Superb mix. The string pad chops with delay is fantastic. Brilliant melody line. Great work!
Wrest - Dig the bass sound- almost sounds like an electric acoustic bass. Nice tone/patch in the melody lines and I like the wide delay pan. Mood is very contemplative. Superb track in all details. NICE!
