Hi there,
I just uploaded mine:
CapDan - Run for Cover (better late than never)
Done in FL Studio
15 instances of SuperWave P8
Effects: Neon Gate, Fruity Limiter, Fruity Compressor, Fruity EQ
Genesis:
First idea for this project was to use the presets of the well known songs to create a cover version and mix them altogether. Something like morphing melodies so that one melodie slightly changes to the next one. But due to lack of time (and musical skills) I decided to just slightly change all the melodies and create this "undercover mix". Hence the name...

Great stuff capdanX ... and cheers everybody ....
I will always remember this collection as the spirited soundtrack to my efforts to gather support and convince our local council that the logic behind their proposed suburban deer cull is ludicrous.
yeah busy as hell with local politics as usual, but now nearly all the tracks are in I can multitask and listen while I campaign
Brilliant work folks!

My apologies... I've been late on every OSC so far!!
I promise the next one I'll be early. This is the part 2 of my first OSC track, from OSC23, called Journey to the Isles. This one keeps a similar melodic, tropical, minimal percussive vibe as the other track.
Track Information:

Title: Shubatiedoobop Part 2 - The Bamboo Synthtar Hymn
Length: 6 minutes, 22 seconds
Genre: Electronic Ballet
Specifications:
------------------------------------------
14x Instances of SuperwaveP8
Cubase
3xTAL-Reverb, 1xTal-Filter2, 6xLiquid Sonics - ReverberateLE GPU Edition, 2xMDSP Compressor, 1xTAL-Tube, 1xSlow Slim Slider Compressor

Libretto/Text:
------------------------------------------
Scene I: Crazy Scientist's lair
"Ohhh dear… I have lost him… poor thing,"
The Scientist said, weeping and roaring. "We could have really had something going."
"Dear, please", says his wife, "We'll find a way to return the boy. With your intellect and knowledge we can…", the scientist cuts in: "NO no no, the machine , the Teletron Synth Booth (tm) 2010, is gone!! All that hard work… I thought that the Booth would not dissapear… this is truly SYNTHRAGEOUS!!!"
Scene II: The isles of Shubatiedoobop - the boy has run out of Seagram's liquor, but he's found a party of tribal warriors, with a keen sense of musical taste - and some pulse nut beer.
"I don't know how I'm going to get out of here,
but I do know that this Bamboo Synthar is raging… yeahhhh"
"Big Chief, check this out *ohhhh yeaaaah*", says Boy.
"It's Big Chef..." "Yeah Yeah… ", says Boy, "How about some Van Halen style riffs?? You like that?"
"No, no, no nooooo",
Big Chef pushes the Boy away. "You have no harmony with nature…
it's all about the harmony… watch this…"
"Just wait for it… listen to the subtle changes in pitch… ... the bamboo Synthar is capable of truly resonant, transient energy...
"
"Do you hear them?", Says Big Chef. "Hear what?", says Boy.
"...The DOLPHINS!"...
"WOWWWWWW… beautiful..."
says Boy, as thousands of Dolphins poke out from the sea and sing.
"They exhibit an immense energy… and their theme song (copyright 1995) is quite popular in the islands."
"No way…. This is wonderful!", Boy gulps down a fresh beverage of mixed down fermented pulse nuts, and comb filter berries.

"…wait… did you say that the Dolphins produce energy??? What kind?....
To be continued - that concludes part 2
It was fun making this one! Hope you guys like it... it may take a few listens, and even some reading of the libretto to understand the style, movement, transient, and feel of where the story is going.
Sidenote: The superwaveP8 is a take from a hardware synth called the JP8000, that came out in 1996. It had an updated version called the JP8080 - with an extra vocoder, and some other doodads. This was the first synth to succesfully utilize a multi-voice oscillator - called the Supersaw, trademarked by roland.
This was an oscillator that had 7 saw tooths - and you had 2 knobs... one for detune, and the other for width. So in effect you had 8 to 10 polypohny, each note 7 saw tooths - pretty nice sound. Also the JP8080 is capable of Unison, so you can many many waves on one note... very fat.

He that's a weird and wonderful story, BJ.
Wish you and everyone else would include a pic to go with the submission like is done in the monthly comps over in the Music Cafe section. Could even attach it to the mp3 as a tag, quite nice to have something to look at and remember the song by when listening on the mp3 player.
Anyway, deadline has passed, voting now started here:

Thank you!Mike777 wrote:NICE drum track! How did you get that great snare hit?
It is really nothing special. The snare is consists of :
-around 1/4 level osc 1 triangle with lpf ( reso max ), with no attack ( important to find sweet spot for decay
amount ). LFO 1 sine, going to OSC 1 pitch. Because of the filtering and short duration it really doesn't make nearly 1/4 sound and is actually barely audible.
-around 3/4 level osc 2 Whitenoise no attack, some release.
LFO 1 sine -> by trial and error playing with rate got semi stable short pitch drop.
LFO 2 tri -> AMP 2
I did play little with filter envelopes, but it was not really necessary.
I usually just start with basic whitenoise, find good spot for filter and envelopes. Then I'll try to add something in to the bottom of the snare, mostly by experimenting aka. trial and error.
This time I layered other really short whitenoise snare on top the first one.
But as usual the processing afterwards is more important than the snare itself. The snare just has EQ with low and high cut and boost in the snare frequency, after that compressor driven hard ( to get some snap to it ) and then another EQ to cut some of the nastier frequencies.
I played the snare with two notes simultaneously, differently in different places on the song. That way it sounds bit more 'live' and I also cut it slightly early in two ways when I bounced it to audio, so that it has little more organic timing in the context of the beat without the need to fiddle with the timing separately. I did correct some of those afterwards though.
I'm certain that this isn't really the optimal way to do things and I played with the sounds way too much with this one and especially the mix suffered quite a bit.
To my understanding Fruity free filter is actually "free", but I could be mistaken. What comes to the delay, it's the ols very basic one and I only used it because the ( better sounding ) TapeDelay needs to be tempo synced by hand ( 60000/t ) and I have the fruity one with shortcut in hand. I always think I'll just replace them later, which I of course don't. I don't think it gives a unfair advantage though.V'ger wrote:Archon1024 wrote:Fruity Limiteruiiuiiu wrote:Fruity free filter, Fruity Delay

Effects should be third party and freely available to all. It's not a big deal here as I don't really think the Fruity stuff is that much better than freewares to give any advantage like you say, especially delays which there are some terrific free ones. This is anyway a common breach and seems to happen every OSC so will as also common left up to the voters. The humorous smack was mostly given for not reading the rules..
