Hey ho awesome site this is! This might not be music theory.. but midi theory ;)

Anyway, I need some help understanding swing. I've played around with it a bit, and know it displaces notes to get another feel of the rhythm.
1. Why is swing often set to a standard of 50%? Someone said that 50% = none?? How is that?
2. There's a huge difference between 50 vs. 0/100.. Is 0 and 100 the same? I just get the feel that 0/100 is very plain and also skips notes??

Swing delays every other note so with 50% swing every other note is dead center == no swing. 100% swing would shift the notes to the next "step" so 100% 16th swing would be the same as quantizing to 8ths. Usually it's between 50% (no swing) and 66% (triplets).

Ok thanks. It's more clear now after reading this and other stuff on the web

I think a lot of people will just program with Quantise on Triplets to get swing. - but this is not really 'swing'

I usually end up putting at least 51% or 52% swing on everything. It's good to add a bit feel to your song even if it's not a noticeable swing.
