Vladg, I have a question concerning the limiter section. I wonder if you re aiming it to more like a brick wall limiter or a traditional style? I liked the earlier limiter more because it distorted less. But if it's supposed to be a brick wall, then please ignore this. Anyhow, the new limiter is better sounding than the very first revision.
Thanks again for this great plugin!

Thanks a lot for replies!
I know limiter implementation in Molot is very weak. But the main purpose of it is to take control of occasional peaks passed through is sigma mode. I.e. affect only signal peaks but don't touch the main signal.
I have a nice picture of example where such kind of limiter can be very useful:

(taken from the post with a lot of screenshots showing how the Molot compressor works; here's a short link: http://wp.me/p1hU3x-2j
)
I want for limiter in Molot to be very simple and CPU lite and that's why it has hardcoded attack/release settings and not so great sound quality. The idea for limiter was to affect signal peaks only a bit like a clipper does but softer than that.
It's suppose to be analog-style limiter with zero latency. It can't be brickwall because the lookahead is needed and it'll cause latency.s_t wrote:Vladg, I have a question concerning the limiter section. I spent a couple of evenings to try to compile Molot VST on Mac.
The result is the OS X version of VST plugin that you can try to use but I don't promise you this version 100% working.
Current issues:
1.There's 32-bit version only (x86 and PowerPC platforms). I had problems to compile VSTGUI for 64-bit version.
2.Checked only for Reaper as VST host.
3.PowerPC version was not checked.
4.There's no my favorite EN/RU switch. I had problems with VSTGUI for dynamic changes of transparent layer with english "paper sticks".
This is TEST (beta) version for OS X:

If you have any problems with this version or can try to help me feel free to write your opinions.

Is there a way to re-skin this thing? It is really dark.

I tried posting on your blog, Vlad, but I'm not sure that it worked.
Anyway, while the AU version is working fine on Mac OS 10.5.8, Intel, the Mac VST test version is rejected by Twisted Wave 1.9.1 and DSP Quattro 3.5.1 and doesn't appear in either Live 7 or the latest Plogue Bidule. AFAIK, there are demos of all these VST compatible hosts to download, except Live, if you want to test further. FWIW…
Best,
Joachim

If it were easy, anybody could do it!

Like I said many pages ago the Molot compressor has more character and character like NO other compressor I have ever used hardware or software! That says a lot considering I've used hundreds of compressors both hardware and software with lots of character in my life. Not to mention the Molot compressor just sounds damn Great and it really does sound like a vintage analog compressor. The developer of the Molot compressor could of very easily made it commercial release.

Would have taken a lot more work to do so, because even though Molot is one of the best sounding compressors around (On this i do agree) it is rather CPU heavy, a factor that currently still plays in commercial releasesBFunKu wrote:The developer of the Molot compressor could of very easily made it commercial release.

Very true, but there are quite a few commercial compressors that use way more CPU then the Molot compressor does. Even ones that are far less complex and basic. Not to mention sound NO where near as Good as Molot, but they still sell for $100+!
