yes! Please make another synth and give it 16 voices, and many other cool features, after ya get this one done. I'll buy you sandwhich. :) Just been messing around with this more and it is just loverly sounding. Actually, I quick a quick and dirty comparo with a pad track my friend did on his Jupiter8 and I feel I duplicated it 95% accurately. I think that is very impressive.

I noticed the slider on LFO goes 00 to 99. but if I am careful with my mouse, I can adjust it to like 00.5 and it does alter the sound, but does not change to 01. that allowed me the slightest warble to duplicate the JP8 analog voice faults.

no confusion. the track he sent me, a pad from his real Jupiter 8, I was able to recreate ALMOST perfectly with this jx8p emulation. :) Is it EXACT and PERFECT? Of course not, but close enough most listeners would never know the difference.

I guess that there are many sounds which can be reproduced close enough by almost any 2 OSC subtractive synth with similar routings, especially for pad sounds, which are not so prominent in the mix.

On the other hand, the JX-8P is a 'sort of' successor of the Jupiter 8, and although it uses different components, I would not be surprised if Roland tried to make it sound similar.

Anyway, I m happy if you get some nice sounds out of the pg-8x.

I just uploaded a new version (pg8x-0.99). As you can see from the new numbering scheme, we are approaching version 1.00 (official release).

Changes in this version:
  • * Added LED display of patch name
    * Added controls for the level of the internal noise in the filter and the chorus
    * Removed the restriction to 16 patches
    * Rebuilt with later version of synthedit to solve issue with FL Studio
If you don't like the faint noise in the chorus, just turn the knob in the SETTINGS panel al the way to the left.

This is not yet version 1.00 because I stil want to change/fix the following points:
  • * Send 'Note-Off' to all voices when changign the key-assignment
    * If possible, include a mechanism to import JX8P SYSEX patches
    * Change the red colour of the of the selected options on sliders to green for better readability
    * Possibly some improvement on the chorus noise
    * Some user manual
    * Some more patches
All these changes should not affect the backwards compatibility with patch banks. Therefore, I removed the restriction to 16 patches. If you have some patch banks you want to see included in the release, just contact me.

Martin

Hi Martin,

good news - if changes in the future to version 1.0 had the backwards compability, I will start to make banks with the present release.

It will take a few days til weekend.....So I'll send you a pm with the
banks (Links). Just a good work, Martin!!!!

Unfortunately 0.99 gives me instant freeze & "Visual C++ runtime error" with Reaper.

Which was the last version running without problems? Could you pm me some more information about the errormessage (if any is included)? Did you have similar problems with any other SE made plugin? Does it crash when loading, or when opening the GUI?

Cheers,
Martin

I just tried it on my generic work PC running Windows 7, and the latest version of REAPER, all presets worked fine with no crashes.
I'll try it at home tonight on my main box to verify. It runs XP SP3 and latest Reaper.

I have just briefly tried 0.99 in REAPER 3.75 on Windows XP Pro SP3, and it works like a charm.

It appears that suddenly I can't reproduce the crash anymore. Couple of hours ago every attempt to run it ended up to a crash. I guess I need to check the flower pods on the table. I might have accidentally moved one of them.

Anyway, I'm running Reaper 3.75 W7 64.
The error said just something like Visual C++ runtime error & abnormal program termination. There are no traces in the windows system logs.

cheers

I am glad the problem seems to have evaporated. Let me know if there are any other glitches.

worked fine on home PC. :)

one more suggestion maybe:
set up INIT PATCH paramaters, with DCOs on SQR wave, 0 octave, 80 mixer, and 80 volume, so basic sound comes out.
also I had to put the FINE TUNE to +4 as the zero point?
just a thought

Can do. I actually was hoping to release it with a full bank of patches, so no INIT sounds should be necessary.

That, in fact, is intended. You find the same behaviour on the hardware.
