I've just download BigTic's Zen which seems to be a fantastic device. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to make GarageBand to show it (I'm a Mac). Also, I looked in my VST folder, and there are no files there connected Zen as I think it should be case. I have the latest beta version 1.6. Is some kind of additional installation necessary or is it maybe a compatibility issue?

any tips or hints appreciated

On a pc you have to copy the Zen.dll from the install folder to your VSTplugin folder before your host daw can see it. Not sure on macs... maybe something similar.

Well in a mac the file should be place inside plug-in folder. The file seems to be there. And I also found the missing vst-file there. So your hunch is right. However, this does not solve my problem but thanks anyway.

Just in case other users would have the same problem, this is because the.swant is using Leopard (vs. Snow Leopard). This page explains what the problem is: for some reason, XCode on Snow Leopard forces linking with libcrypto 0.9.8, making Zen incompatible with Leopard (which comes with 0.9.7)

For Leopard users, the easiest way to get this fixed is to install a more recent version of openssl, using these steps.

Garageband does not use VST plugins, only AudioUnit (AU) plugins. Unless there is an AU version of the plugin that exists in the 'Components' folder in the 'Plug-Ins' folder, Garageband won't see it.

Zen installs both a vst and audiounit version. But in the case of the OP, I'm 99.9% sure it is because he uses Leopard and not SL.

Yes. It's because I lack a version of a crypto-file that comes with Snowleopard I just found out.
