...is that it's an excellent pdf reader for software manuals. I have a dedicated e-book reader but it's terrible for large pdf files. However, my iPad with the free Bluefire reader makes it very easy to navigate and read manuals.

I hate reading books off a computer screen as the reading distance is less than ideal and becomes uncomfortable after a while. Printing several hundred pages is also less than ideal for many reasons.

Plus having the manual in front of you while working with stuff is easier than having to switch back and forth on the computer!

I totally agree! Haven't got one yet, but this feature alone is great + the usual net stuff, google & google maps etc. Even my current iPod touch and an Android phone, with their tiny screens, are awesome for reading pdf's.

One thing to add. Using my banks services online is ten times faster on my Android phone or iPod than on my desktop computer(using the same internet connection). The webpage is just so slow to load on the desktop, but the dedicated software on Android loads no pages or graphics from the net.. and the phone can scan the barcodes too! Superb!

I got one of the large kindles (10" screen, so comparable with the iPad?) for this very reason. I've learnt a lot since I got it, and its a damn sight easier on the eye than a computer screen.
It also seems clearer for small text, which is good - I can read most PDFs (including those of big textbooks - my OU course material is A4 and still readable on the smaller screen) so I don't have to play with the panning.

I was thinking about getting a tablet computer (like the android ones) but decided to go for e-ink. you can get pdfs converted into an ebook format as well, so it will be resizable on your smaller ebook.

The ipad for pdf's is one of the main reasons i got one. It does everything else in the world too which is a plus. Except flash. Yeah, thats a definite govenor in my web rocket. Is there any replacements yet?

I've been studying for an upcoming exam and the material is PDF. Got through 300 questions last night reading it on my ipad. You don't even need a reader btw, just email yourself the pdf and open it from the email app.

That's a good use for the ipad or kindle.
I have an itouch but reading things on it is a bit fiddly.
Might have to get myself an ipad sometime.
