Thanks Greg!

So as you know, I'm going to be including the MIDI files and patches for the demos with the product. Are there any requests for styles or techniques that I should use that would be helpful for you?

Some simple 'bread n butter' background strumming would be great. That would be a helpful starting point for learning how to use the acoustic.

P.S.: Did you get my PM?

After all the work and sweat you've put into it, will the release version come with a fresh set of strings? :D

Still, it would be very cool to have old, stinky strings, fresh strings and fresh strings so fresh they won't stay in tune. Maybe for the nylon edition?

I plan out the sampling sessions for stringed instruments such that I get all the important sounds sampled with the strings while they're the freshest, and then the nuances and other small samples after that, in case there's any wear that happens (which there usually is a little bit of).

Oh, and I definitely play on the strings a little bit beforehand to get them to relax. Even in the first few hours of putting on new strings, the tone changes, let alone the first day.

Any news? Any demos?

Post

Yup, still around and working very hard to finish the acoustic guitar! Definitely one of the largest and most extensive libraries I've ever done. :)

Excellent news!

Any idea on a price yet? That way, I know how much I have to save in my PayPal account! :hihi:

Same as EEG Strawberry--$199 USD with an introductory discount of $159 USD. Plus, a bunch of you guys have $40 vouchers from last year's group buy--those will be active as well.

Care to give us an approximate idea of the release date? I realize this is difficult (and subject to change), but is it more in the neighborhood of 3 weeks at this point or more in the neighborhood of 3 months?

Thanks,
Ben

More in the neighborhood of 3 weeks, not 3 months. :)

When it comes to sampling, I'm really a perfectionist--I want to make sure every single of the 5,988 samples are as perfect as possible. That means, with a consistently low noise floor, no extraneous sounds making it in to the ends of samples, etc. It's ironic because when I perform music I'm quite the opposite, since it's tough to be a perfectionist when improvising--in this case you just have to make do with what you have, the whole definition of improvisation.

Cool news, Greg! I'm of the opinion that you should take as much time as is necessary to get things the way you like them, and I appreciate you taking the time to get things exactly right! I wish other companies would do the same!!!

Of course, you don't want to take too long either because someone else might beat you to it... and if some minor things come up, as they often do in a product with so much detail you can always release a fix down the road. Imo, it's a balance of not releasing schlock but on the other hand not getting too too crazy with it. :)

So, I guess what I'm saying is... take four weeks or more if you need to, but I hope it won't be three months! Really looking forward to this!!!

Sequent, good points!

I think Greg's talent and perfectionist nature is what makes Orange Tree Samples libraries so incredibly good. However, as we're seeing with this library, it also means Greg doesn't crank out libraries as fast as many other devs. I think part of the solution is, in the future, maybe it will be less torture for customers if upcoming libraries are announced much closer to their release date.

The anticipation on this one has been really tough for me, as I've been pushing for this library for more than a year and I give Greg marketing advice, so we often trade emails and he has sent me these audio clips of the library that have been amazing. I sold RealGuitar 2L in anticipation of this (actually, it took me several months to sell), but that seems like a toy by comparison. The acoustic guitar tone and playing in the demo Greg sent me yesterday was really, just beautiful. I've never heard an acoustic guitar sample library even come close to having such gorgeous tone and realism. As someone who has used guitar sample libraries since the 80s, I'm astounded at the level he's achieved. But, hearing this stuff and waiting can sometimes feel like water torture. The way I deal with it is by considering that this isn't just one more acoustic guitar sample library, this is taking things to another level. It's innovation; pushing the envelope. That's Greg's forte. It's entirely different than simply a sample developer churning out another library. I would expect that additional acoustic guitars will be made in significantly less time, as this is the first one (I'm eager for an acoustic guitar with nylon strings in the Evolution series).

In the end, I am completely confident based on what I've heard and what we've already seen from Greg, once we all get this new library, we will all be saying, "Man, if this is what that extra time resulted in producing, don't change the formula. It was worth the wait."

No pressure, but I'm waiting -- I've got multiple libraries I'm looking to buy, but this is the first on my list. So my money is in a holding pattern until your acoustic guitar library is released.

Again, no pressure. :D

Hi,

I've just stumbled across this tonight and I am completely blown away by the articulations and quality!! It is sooooo good that I have signed up to KVR to keep up to date.

I am extremely eager to get my hands on this so despite the "no pressure" virtues above.........there is pressure......I WANT IT NOW  :hihi: :D

Seriously though - you'll make an Irish keyboard player VERY happy to be able to implement stunning acoustic guitar in his setup.

ps: please hurry up and release it!! :D
