We couldn't resist, added a new articulation to make this demo possible (hard sustain)

Wow! Sounds really good, and I happen to really like that particular song!
And a new articulation!? This was already a must-buy long time ago, and now this? Well, what can I really say anymore? Super.

Post

Zircon,
Can you please post something with sustained chords and notes.
Also something with fast repeated unmuted chords.Minor thirds make amp sims go heywire!

bill45: Sure, I'll do what I can! In my experience though, it's better to put chords on separate tracks. For example in the Self vs. Self mockup, I'm actually using two instances for the lead part. One instance takes the upper harmony, the other takes the lower harmony. They run through separate amps so you don't get that nasty 3rd distortion which is often unwanted in melodic riffs.

SHREDDAGE X: Electric Guitar Samples Reloaded

Shreddage X is an expansion to the megahit DI electric guitar library Shreddage, which we released in early 2010. As we pored over countless emails, forum posts and Facebook comments about what people wanted to see in future versions, we decided that a simple patch would not be enough. We needed to go deeper. And I think we might have gotten a little carried away.

With 1,000 24-bit WAV samples, Shreddage X is actually bigger than the original library, though it's available for only $20 to owners of the original, and $69 as a complete bundle.

Features:

* New articulation: vibrato (previously, only included as pinch squealed vibrato)
* New articulation: harmonics (traditional, not pinch harmonics)
* New articulation: tremolo picking (a metal must-have)
* New articulation: hard sustain picks (very aggressive, great for staccatos)
* Single note release stop samples (again, great for staccatos)
* True recorded slides up to and down from each note, single notes AND powerchords
* Hammered legato
* Script controls to tweak legato timing to your taste
* Drop tuning down to Ab (the "A" is for "Armageddon")
* New mapping to incorporate all this great new stuff - and yet, still no need for any keyswitches or complex CC mapping
* Kontakt 4 native (full version of K4 required)

As you can see, we didn't play around with this one. The combination of Shreddage and Shreddage X makes for a complete rock and metal riff arsenal. Just check out the library page and listen for yourself to the demos:

http://impactsoundworks.com/products/in ... hreddage-x

"Rock the Dragon" - Classic 90s American import anime theme, Shreddage-style. Shows off a number of new articulations.

"The Fire and the Fury" - Seriously fast and brutal metal riffing here (original song by Firewind.)

"Self vs. Self" - Mockup of a Pendulum feat. In Flames track. Showcases higher harmony playing with multiple amps and new articulations!

"Descent Into Darkness" - Composed by Robert Santolupo, a VERY dark + heavy track with quad-tracked amp work.

Of course, all this would be useless if it were hard to use. We're releasing multiple video tutorials showcasing tips and techniques for the library, starting with a 15-minute overview that demonstrates the new articulations and how to use them.

So check it out, enjoy, and as always, let us know what you think!

SHREDDAGE X: Electric Guitar Samples Reloaded
Hi Zircon,

The link in your OP quoted above results in a 404. ;-)

It translates into:

but the proper URL should be:

This is quite good. I'm going to make a better post after I've had more time to play with it, but...

Does anyone know of any successful demonstration of fast arpeggios, fast scales, or any fast guitar run at all, using sustained notes in either version of Shreddage?

I'm doing everything in my DAW's MIDI editor, and I've spent time playing with Shreddage UI settings, Kontakt settings, DAW settings, and stretching note lengths to get some overlap between notes, but it never sounds natural at high speeds. I was hoping this new Hammer-Legato setting would do the trick, and it's getting better to my ears, but I still can't quite nail it.

Anyone successfully nailed it with Shreddage?

Thanks,
RUJ

Spitfire31: Whoops, good catch. Fixed.

RUJ: If you link to a YouTube video or MP3 demonstrating the kind of sound you're looking for, I'm sure I can help (and if I can't figure out something, I consult with my guitarist and our various beta testers.)

Thanks for your response. The first 15 seconds of this song would be a good example. This song's about 25 years old, but they're still one of my favorite bands.

I know those kinds of guitar runs aren't what Shreddage was designed for, but I'd be curious to hear if anyone has managed to get a natural sound with something at that speed.

Post

Hehe, I guess I can't post non-MP3 links until I have 5 posts. Well, I was gonna post a more detailed opinion about Shreddage X anyway, soooo....

First of all, I've never used fully-muted power chords before, but wow, they really add depth and power to metal when you use them instead of standard palm mutes on slow, heavy stuff. And the Shreddage X ones just sound superb through the main amp sim I use for my actual guitar.

The new sliding (portamento) power chords make a huge difference. The combination of fully-muted power chords and sustained power chords make standard simple metal riffs sound absolutely natural, alive and heavy, to the point where you'd never guess they were samples.

The new vibrato CC makes a big difference too. Sustained notes sound so much more natural and musical now. With a combination of vibrato and pinch squeals, you can make a very natural and dynamic-sounding metal riff...truly.

I haven't really played with the harmonics CC yet, but Zircon made them sound good in the YouTube video.

The new tremolo picking...well...that would be useful if you happen to want picking at that exact rate :) If you write a song around that particular picking speed, most of the work is already done for you.

I'm still trying to work out how to use the new controls to make fast sustained notes sound natural. I'm getting better at it after practicing for an hour or 2, but I need more practice. I think what I'm trying to do is to make fast guitar runs break down into 2-note combinations, thus fully using the new legato and portamento controls. I'm not a good guitar player, so when I record actual guitar, I often break fast guitar runs down into 2- and 3-note combinations anyway, using multiple punch-ins for a single difficult riff.

Bottom line: Shreddage X sounds great, it's massively useful, and it's super easy to use. I thought $49 was a great price for the original, but $20 is surprisingly cheap for this kind of quality. Good work.

Is it worth a 5th post, just to make my links clickable? I suppose the question, in being posted here, implicitly answers itself.

So, of all the feedback we've received for Shreddage (and SX), one common thing that keeps popping up is "How do I get a good tone?" Well, today I'm happy to announce that we've answered that question for every Shreddage user... with the help of Peavey!

They've teamed up with us to provide a custom version of their flagship ReValver amp sim plugin with every copy of Shreddage. That's right - every Shreddage user, current and future, will receiver this new plugin (ReValver HPse) absolutely free. FREE! We've included an arsenal of awesome presets, including a bank of 8 "Shreddage presets" that are designed JUST for this library.

Now, it literally could not be simpler to pick a great clean or hi-gain tone and get an immediately phat, wide and thick sound. Just check out the YouTube video I made demonstrating:

But that's not all, While all current and future Shreddage customers will get this plugin absolutely free, they also get discounted upgrades to other versions of ReValver, including the flagship ReValver MKIII.V.

* HPse users can upgrade to ReValver HP for just $30 (normally $100)
* HPse users can upgrade to ReValver MKIII.V for only $199 (normally $299!)

So, if you want more amp models (including non-Peavey) models, a huge set of stompboxes and effects, hundreds of cabs and more features, you won't find a better deal anywhere else. HPse users will be able to access this awesome upgrade path from the Peavey site:

http://www.peavey.com/products/software/revalver/

As you can tell, I'm very happy about this new addition to our library. From day one, I wanted to make it very easy for people to get a great, custom amped tone with Shreddage (which is why I included amp sim presets), but it's only now that we've finally made that as simple and direct as possible. It couldn't have been with a better amp sim, too (some of our most popular demos were done using ReValver!)

Enjoy! :D

I received your mail as a shreddage customer yet I couldn't find any links in it where to download this free amp sim. I have enough Amp Sims tbh, yet I#m open to test a freebie amp sim any day .g.

How do existing customers get access to it ?
