I'd like to see more reports from similar systems too (W7 x64, Reaper 32). It should be noted also that There was a short period when it worked fine in my system. So it could be possible that if there is a problem within this synth, it can appear randomly with other users as well. Yet to be seen, though.

older versions of pg8 worked fine too. You said you started using new version synth edit with the 0.99? Could that be something to investigate?
Synth edit plugins have caused relatively very little troubles to me in the past.

cheers
I will try a later version of SE. If this does not solve the problem, I might actually go back to the version I used before. Which was the last version of the plugin which worked without problems?

Note that the filter will also benefit from oversampling by helping to pull the resonance frequency closer to the cutoff frequency. In real analog filters the negative feedback that creates the resonance has an almost instant delay. In a digital IIR filter however, the resonance feedback is delayed one sample, which is one of the main reasons digitally modeled filters sound different than real analog ones. Oversampling makes that sample delay shorter, which moves the resonant frequency closer to where it should be. (And yes, it also helps reduce aliasing when resonance is so high it starts clipping.)

I don't find it's using much CPU at all, I think Martin's done a great job at optimization already. What kind of platform are you on?

Hi Martin, great plug-in! When pg8x-1.00 dll will be availiable?

It is already as good as finished. I won't change anything about the sound. I am now working on a way to import JX8P sysex files, and then want to write a short manual before the official release.

I already have some of Schiffbauers patches which he used for the sound demos, and I will also include them in the release.

I am quite busy this week with my day-time job, but I hope that I can finish things over the weekend and release it some time next week.

Cheers,
Martin

Thanks for the info, Martin. In my opinion, please, release as much patches as possible.

The plugin did not load in Minihost or VSTHost, but if i load it from Xlutop Chainer, then it starts. A few days ago, i have updated the MS vcredist from version 2005 to 2011 (this helps me with some SE Plugins). Are there other versions which i have to install (10, 09, 08...) ?

Thanks for letting me know. I have not tried Vsthost and Minihost yet, only Savihost, where I did not have any problems. What, exactly, where the problems? Did it not load in the first place, or did it load and crash?

When you updated the vcredist from 05 to 11, did it help?

I used VisualC++ 2008 to compile the custom modules. I don't know whether that requires any particular run-time libraries.

I am curious whether any of the other reported problems could be linked to specific versions of the run time libraries.

Cheers,
Martin

Minihost says "not a valid VST Plugin", VSTHost does simply nothing, and just tried Savihost, it says that i have to rename the Savihost.exe, but i have it alredy renamed and the pg8x created a subfolder with the *.sem Files.

This helps me to start FMMF, some DSK Plugins and the last release of Phenome (fewer versions work without update of vcredist).

Windows XP SP3 32bit, no problem loading, running, and playing this plug in both MINIHOST and VSTHOST. But, boy, do those programs feel old!! MINIHOST is from 2005 direct from the makers site.

My system is fairly plain. almost nothing loads at start up. It's on the net, but I keep it pretty clean and reeled in, system wise.

Same here, working fine in XP SP3 32 bit in Tobybear's MiniHost and Seib's VSTHost.

ASIO driver is Edirol UA-1000 at 44.1 kHz, 96 samples latency

Which operating system are you running? And, did you try any other hosts?

PG-8X works perfectly in VST-Host (H. Seib) and Samplitude V9 SE
(Windows XP, SP2, 32Bit). Otherwise, take the last version of VSThost.

Well this is one amazing synth :) Having had an MKS70 for about 2 years (and having sold it so i could buy an Alesis Andromeda), i do readily recognize it's sound. it sounds pretty similar, as far as i can remember.

Since the JX8 isn't a galaxy away from let's say a Jupiter 6, how hard would it be to make an emulation of a Jupiter 6? You'd have to change the oscs a bit, but i think the filter chip was pretty much the same in both synths, so you'd just have to make a multimode version of it.

Anyways.. just to let you know that i'm thoroughly enjoying this synth, and i really think this is one of the best sounding free VST's i've heard so far... and it's fun to mess with too! :) Can't wait to see what else you're going to come up with.

This is an emulation of the Roland JX-8P...

...not the Roland Jupiter 8...

lol i know AQ.. i've had both an MKS70 and a JP6 ;).. and i never mentioned a Jupiter 8, but a Jupiter 6, which is much closer to the JX8P in a couple of ways.

Anyway, i merely suggested the JP6 since given Martins' talent, it would probably turn into a spot on emulation :) And since he was planning on creating a version with more features anyway, this might be something to consider.

Oh i also noticed i wrote JP8 when i meant JX8.. scuze moi, correcting the error :)
