Assign midi controller Issue

I just purchased cantabile solo a few days ago and I'm setting up some sessions. I have about 10 vsti's loaded, assigned faders from my keystation 88 pro to controllers etc.

I wanted to change the way the faders on the keyboard work and now I need to reassign all the midi controllers for about 15 existing sessions to match the new mapping (only about 4 are global).

So, I load up the session and then remove all session controller assignments, just keeping the global ones. After that, I right click on a control in cantabile (e. g. the gain on the synth1 rack) and select 'Assign Controller' (or similar, I'm not at my workstation right now, sorry about that). A window pops up and at the bottom it has already 'synth1 gain' selected. So i just move the fader on the keyboard I want to assign to 'synth1 gain'.

Sometimes that's how it works, many times, though when I move the fader on the keyboard the selected control I want to assign the fader to, switches from 'synth1 - gain' to something else, apparently random, like 'M1 - release'. The fader is definitely not assigned to anything, though. But the only way I can assign it to the 'synth1 - gain' control is to open the full assignment dialog, pick the midi controller first (by moving it on the keyboard) which will then select some control on the bottom, and I then can select the control I actually want to assign the midi signal, too.

Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks!
