How are you guys working between apps (standalone synths with sequencers)?Just

Just wondering, how does it work on the i-Devices? I'm asking about standalone synth and drum apps, not sequencing studios like NanoStudio, Music Studio, BeatMaker 2, Xenon...etc.
So for example, you have BeatMaker 2 or Music Studio, and neither one of them have any synthesis, and you want to use Korg i-MS20 or Crystal or whatever standalone synth app with them--how do you do it? It's not like there's some kind of ReWire equivalent on the iOS where you can sync apps.

C'mon, there must be somebody out there that's using copy & paste across apps to create a bigger/better sounding track? But how is this done? I mean, you can export audio out of apps to a multitrack DAW app, so that much I understand, but these apps can't be used simultaneously, so how can you play back what you have in the multitrack AND synth or drum machine or sequencing studio apps at the same time and hear them playback together, or even playback the multitrack DAW so you can hear the track while playing/recording a drum part or a synth part in another app? There must be something I'm not getting because I can't figure this out.

As I have said before in your other threads... You can sample a sound, and then use various (native and otherwise) copy/paste schemes to put the sound in another app.
Here http://code.google.com/p/intua-audio-sh ... atibleApps is a partial list of those who use the intua scheme... Partial, for example because Nanostudio works with it as well as others that are not listed..... It is as simple as copy and paste.....

I see. So the workflow involving multitrack DAW apps is really more like just bouncing down the instruments into the app and use it as a final mix/master app, while all the rest is simply done by rendering standalone synths and drum machines and effects apps and cut & paste to the sequencing apps with samplers. There aren't many apps with a sampling keyboard though--NanoStudio and Music Studio don't have it, and BeatMaker 2 is the one that does currently. There are other more esoteric apps that does too, but they're not as streamlined.

Actually Nanostudio also samples. See page 22 of the manual..... MusicStudio is the one that is limited to just a few sounds.....

NanoStudio only has sampling pads, not keyboard. I want to be able to actually play samples like a melodic instruments. Music Studio has a sampling coming in May, as well as a bunch of new features they developed for FL Studio Mobile (Image-Line outsourced all FL Studio Mobile development to Xewton).Dewaine wrote:Actually Nanostudio also samples. Ahh, you're right, it can use .wav as the oscillator source. It seems it also does it correctly, which is to pitch up and down without actually changing the speed.buttrock wrote:Not true. You can use the Eden-Synths as Sample Players. Switch it to Sample in the Osc page and load up a sample.
Wow, it that case, I might have to just buy NanoStudio too, since it would be pointless to get BeatMaker 2 as it doesn't have synths, while NanoStudio can do both synthesis and sampling. Add Music Studio's upcoming ability to have audio tracks, its large track count capability, and also using audio cut & paste between NanoStudio And Music Studio (not to mention Music Studio has sampling coming soon too, but no synths), this combo will be just perfect.

IPad needs full function DAWs with plugin architecture. GarageBand shows the possibilities. Big opportunity here for an ambitious company.
I bet Steinberg will do something innovative, Cakewalk will thumb their nose at iPad and Logic will stay shrowded in mystery until the end of time.

GarageBand really is "Logic Super Lite" in a way, so if Apple is to expand their music-making app presence on the i-Devices, it'll much more likely be simply adding more features/power to GarageBand than putting Logic on the i-Devices in any way, shape, or form.Triny D wrote:Logic will stay shrowded in mystery until the end of time.

That's a good call, and I can recognize the sound of Logic's EVP88 anywhere...that there instrument is definitely in Garage Band for iPad.Lunatique wrote:GarageBand really is "Logic Super Lite" in a way, so if Apple is to expand their music-making app presence on the i-Devices, it'll much more likely be simply adding more features/power to GarageBand than putting Logic on the i-Devices in any way, shape, or form.Triny D wrote:Logic will stay shrowded in mystery until the end of time.
I'd be happy with a "GarageBand Pro" on iPad, while continuing to use Logic Pro on iMac for the heavy stuff with Spectrasonics.

I know, I'm the one that gave you that info.....Lunatique wrote:Music Studio has a sampling coming in May, as well as a bunch of new features they developed for FL Studio Mobile (Image-Line outsourced all FL Studio Mobile development to Xewton).
Just a closing thought.... I have found it to be a generally bad purchase decision, to purchase products based on what is promised. It is easy to claim that a product will be so great, at some future date. It is in my experience wiser to purchase a product based on the reality of what it can do at the time of purchase......
I own Music Studio, and if they bring a major update, I will install and try again. But I need what works best now, not the promises of a developer.....
And, from what I can see, the FL version is going to be pretty limited as well...

Dewaine - I first got that info from this thread:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 6&start=15
The thing I like about Xewton is that they promised to never pull a "BeatMaker 2" B.S. on its users and make them pay twice. All updates will be free. NanoStudio never charged its users twice either. Although I agree that what features are available now is important, it's also wise to wait and see what happens in the near future. May is not far away at all, and it's not like we have deadlines where we must create music solely on the iDevice for some client or something--we can afford to wait a little (at least for me). I think the fact Image-Line chose to work with Xewton says a lot about the potential they see in its solid engine and coding, as well as very well designed navigation, keyboard, pianoroll...etc. I hear so much about BeatMaker 2 crashing that it makes me nervous, and I don't see nearly the same frequency of complaints about crashes on the NanoStudio and Music Studio forums.
Even just listening to the level of music composition/arrangements done by users of all three apps, it's clear to me that NanoStudio and Music Studio users are doing superior work (IMHO) that's not simply just a lot of loop-based simple hip-hop beats, which is what the majority of BeatMaker users seem to favor. Even the non-hip-hop tracks I heard done with BeatMaker seem like of primitive and unsophisticated (though you can always point me to something I might not have heard as an example of great music done with BeatMaker). Music Studio users are more serious composer/arranger types, while NanoStudio users are more serious electronic music composers who pay more attention to interesting modulations and complex evolving tracks. (This is probably a generalization, so I apologize if it's not true.)
I don't mean to always say negative stuff about BeatMaker 2, since I haven't even tried it but merely read its user's manual, watched videos, and read online discussions about it. Maybe it's all that and then some, but based on all I know about it so far, it just doesn't seem to fit my needs, especially considering the new features coming to Music Studio in May, and the fact that I'll likely buy NanoStudio next as well as other quality synths and effects apps (I already bought Music Studio). Those together will form a pretty formidable little mobile studio already.

And I told you about in on your other main thread ... I wrote there "By the way... Music Studio will soon be released in a new skin, and a few more features as FL Studio mobile. Check out threads in this forum......." and withing 30 minutes you had posted on that FL thread....but anyway...
Music Studio and Nano Studio have never had their owners "pay twice" because they have never did a major update to their software. Beat Maker 2 is a totally revamped product compared to BM1. BM1 was a basic beat box, BM2 is as close to a complete DAW as there is on iOS. NanoStudio has been out 8 months, there is no NS2. Music Studio has been out a long time, and is always promising something more. As I have said on at least two post in the past... get Music Studio, it seems to be the best fit for you. Why you keep on and on with all this is beyond me..... Just get Music Studio!
BTW, just to complicate things.... have you looked at iSequence?
UPDATE I see you have got Music Studio.... congrats!!!
