Ok, here are my votes ..... this was very, very difficult ... as I listen again to Yeager and Ride the Saw, I ask "how can these tracks be worth only 2 and 1 votes?" .... Then I listen to my top 3, and all is revealed.
Incredible standard of entries .... there is not a track in that collection which deserves to end up with no votes, but alas, I'm sure some will ..... theres def no shame in that though, given the strength of the competition.

5 pts: Xaphoid: This is really what Superwave P8 is all about imo, nice phat tones and ditto trancy tune with strong melody and details. I dig this.

4 pts: Tattie: Nice sounds and composition. Are you actually automating the portamento or doing it on the fly? Negative is the slightly narrow stereo image typical from you, don't know why that is.

3 pts: Painpotato: Way cool sounds and riff. Had it been longer than a minute something, who knows how high it would go on my list.

2 pts: ParadoxUn: Again, nice to hear unashamed trance/dance tunes.

1 pt: Yeager: Lovely sound and production as usual.

To answer your question re. stereo width, it has a bit to do with how my room is set up, as time goes by, there is more stuff in my house, and less space. My speaker are too far apart to really judge .... sometimes the width appears to be there, but only because of the separation, and if I go wide, I hear that 'hole in the middle effect' ... possibly due to the fact the distance also makes me want to turn up the wider panned sounds to compensate. Also my PC is much closer to one speaker than to the other. Therefore it takes more time than it would otherwise to get this right ... time I usually struggle to find, therefore, I kinda play safe.

Oh, the portamento is not automated, just writing in notes of different length, overlapping other notes at different points, and graduating the shift by adding notes between the upper and lower notes in the shift, or adding a short note higher/lower than the target note which the porta speed has no time to reach ... stuff like that.

Tattie, you've mentioned this before, but I still find it amazing that you "mouse in" your MIDI parts. You must be EXTREMELY patient or EXTREMELY adept at it! And I guess by now you've also developed a nice bag of tricks (I mean that in a good way) to arrange your parts. At any rate, your results always strike a good balance between sounding sequenced and sounding human. I mean, I can believe it's completely sequenced - but can also envision a mini studio orchestra of crack instrumentalists playing your lines live (on some pretty bizarre instruments!). There's no obvious evidence to indicate the recording was produced one way or the other, other than maybe the instrumentation itself. I bet you could come up with some pretty wild Dixieland jazz if you used some traditional-instrument VSTi's!
