You know, I'm so fond of its bridge pickup tone now that I've been avoiding making radical changes to it. I'm considering adding the TonePros locking brass studs and a Dimarzio EJ Custom in the neck.

You'll have to do quite a bit of digging me thinks though as they may not fit the SE. I would get on kicks where I'd google ridiculously trying to find people who did it, what kinda mods, if they fit, issues, etc.........and as you can see I gave up :hihi:

Of course you have to take the hibidy factor into account as things generally are opposite for me :help:

The way I see them is as P-90s plus additional options, so I set up the amp for the P-90s. The rails together make for a nice, quieter rhythm alternative (arpeggiated chords etc) then, the two humbucking modes for additional rock rhythm/lead tones, granted, the serial mode better gets its dedicated OD pedal if you need that 4th tone at all.
My default setting with the P-90 tone and rails is the middle position anyway, so noise is not really an issue.

But pretty sure this guitar will sound just fine with any modern PU combination, I always kinda liked those PAF Pro family DiMarzios (PAF Pro, Tone Zone, Fred etc) in RG style guitars (just wanted to pull hibidy's chain a bit :wink: ).

Can't really go wrong with a Tone Pros bridge on the PRS, not that expensive, and if it doesn't work out it'll be waiting for another guitar, so what. :shrug:

You also might want to consider TV Jones Gretsch style PUs.
My baritone has far east TV Jones designed Filtertrons, pretty close to the real ones in my RHH, classic baritone / tick tock tone. :love:
And the RHH can get dangerously close to modern ZZ Top, too, these are not only rockabilly PUs by any means.

I have about 400 dollars worth of things I want to do to the baritone...now it's stereo and I put two of those Artec QDD2 pre-amps I like in it. (the artecs are the ones that are 5-way rotary switches with 4 flavors of boost and a bypass) By the time I'm done I'll need an FCC license just to play it :hihi:

@ 1620 - afaik (and hope) you didn't lose anything in the deal - a lot of my most valuable learning experience comes from unluckier deals like that, I wouldn't want to miss them. :shrug:

@ funky multi-mode PUs, this guitar is an exception, most others don't even have coil taps.
The only wiring mods I really do nowadays is middle PUs with a Megaswitch in Teles, and of course various treble bleed mods.
Oh yeah, and I like the EC preamp a lot in Strats. :tu:

And believe me, I've been through years of spacecraft style monstrosities in the '80s ... :-o

In that case, you might consider using a PRS-style rotary or a Megaswitch P. That's one of my favorite switching schemes since every mode position is useful.

The way this Ibanez is setup, with a 3-way and 2 push/pulls, isn't all that conducive to performance use. Also, there are too many bad sounds available.

Actually, I have nearly the same guitar with a Tone Zone in the bridge and a PAF Pro in the neck, which sounds much better to me. Fortunately, the seller of the new guitar ended up throwing in a Fred and a PAF Joe so I'll probably install those.

@ Megaswitch P, I never really fathomed out if this will give you the same hum-cancelling options with e.g. Duncans, I was under the impression the related PRS PUs have a slightly different polarity setup to pull this off, dunno, I might be mistaken. :shrug:

Switching on my guitar works fine for me, slightly modded the suggested wiring so both push-pulls down means P-90 (my main tone here), both up means Rails and so on.

And it's a basic 3-way switch, nothing fancy.
