Zen: What makes a preset new?

What criteria does Zen use to determine if a preset is new or not (ie if it has the "new" tag)? I assumed it would be if you'd actually selected it yet, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

A preset is new until you select it. However, they only lose their tag when quitting your Zen session, so that you can browse through the list of "new" presets without having them disappear.
