Have you tried what happens if you wait a bit longer before hard resetting?

The first time I waited about 15 minutes.

Do you get a visual c++ error message? Or do you mean you lose control of your whole pc?

The mouse cursor still moves, but Windows won't react to any mouse clicks. When I try to call up the Task Manager unsing Ctrl-Alt-Delete nothing happens.

I haven't had any troubles loading previous versions, but 0.991 is broken for me.
I'm in 32bit Reaper on 64bit Win7. When I scanned for new VST's I got the error:
Can't load SE Plugin: A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.
.File: C:\ ..... VST\pg8x-0.991\DH_TEXTIO.SEM

Did Version 0.99 work for you? (that was the one causing trouble for other reaper users...) Version 0.99 was the first where I used the DH_TEXTIO module. If 0.99 works and 0.991 does not, I am very puzzled, because I did not change anything in this part of the plugin...

Can you check whether this file has the right permissions (or exist at all)?

I can run v0.99 fine, it is only 0.991 that messes everything up.
I don't understand the question about the file having the right permissions. There is no file with that name (DH_TEXTIO.SEM) only the pg8x-0.991.dll file. I figured the \DH_TEXTIO.SEM was some resource within the dll.
The "pg8x-0.991.dll" file had all the approriate permissions. I deleted the file so I could get Reaper working agian.

As a dude who produces skweee music I really look for gems like this one to give me some warm analog sounds. I am surprised how close this one sounds to the real deal. Good going!

envelope operation/assignment on jx8p. what affects what?
according to what i'm getting here, it is somewhat
different that what i'd expect. quick rundown would be
welcome. i'd assume EG would be VCA and EG2 VCF, but it
doesn't seem to be like that...

There's a switch at each envelope destination letting you pick which envelope to use, and whether it's normal or inverted.

Martin, I downloaded this yesterday, and spent most of the evening with it, and I have to tell you how much I enjoy and appreciate the work you put into making this great synth.
The sound quality is amazing, the GUI is well layed out, easy on the eyes, and quite a bit of fun to use.

I'm unfamiliar with the hardware counterpart, but this synth really sounds great. The filter has a nice rich sound, as do the osc's and lfo's.
Perhaps it's the use of the sliders, but at times while I was creating a sound, I was reminded of my long gone JD800.

This one is a keeper, and I could not in clear conscience keep it in my Cubase vst folder without paying for it. So a donation was made today.
It may not be a lot but I wanted to give you something, perhaps enough for you to take the wife out for a dinner to make up for all those hours you spent creating this.

I would urge my fellow kvr'ians, if you love this synth as much as I do, any donation to show our appreciation would be a nice thing.

Hmm... The file DH_TEXTIO.SEM should be in that directory pg8x-0.991. That's why I was asking whether there were some issues with having access to write anything into that directory. If the programme, for some reason, cannot write this file, it would explain that it will not start.

Were there any other *.SEM files in the directory */pg9x-0.991/ or was it empty?

If it was empty, it might indicate that there were problems writing the file.

If the other files were there, the plug must have crashed before writing the file.

I have just tested pg8x v0.991 in REAPER x86 v3.75 on Windows 7 x64, and as soon as I add pg8x to a track the entire system slips into "zombie mode" (i.e. the system becomes unresponsive, I have to do a hard reset). After trying a couple of times I have found a solution: If one runs pg8x as a seperate or dedicated process it works just fine.

pg8x v0.991 works fine in REAPER x86 on Windows XP x86, and it also works fine in REAPER x64 on Windows 7 x64 (where it is bridged, so I think it already runs as a seperate process).

Thanks for that. This is a very interesting observation. Do you have any more information on what this designated or separate mode does? Or also what the 'normal' mode does differently. It would be great if this 'fix' could solve the problem, as I am really struggling to find any other solution, mainly because I cannot reproduce the crash in the first place.

If it really works, I will add a note on my web-page to advice reaper users to set the plugin in that designated mode.

Not necessarily. While testing pg8x on Windows 7 x64 I happened to spot that the *.SEM files weren't created in my VST directory in C:\Program Files (x86), but in C:\Users\Tale\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86) instead.

This is a very interesting observation. Do you have any more information on what this designated or separate mode does? Or also what the 'normal' mode does differently.

I'm not sure, but I think it activates REAPER's built-in bridge (normally used for bridging x86-x64). Why this seems to fix things I don't know.

I did not understand in your last post, whether it is working now, or whether you still have problems with the DH_TEXTIO.SEM missing. If it is still complaining about this file, could you try to move all the SEM files, created by this plugin into the "VST directory"/pg8x-0.991/ where "VST directory" is the folder where you have the pg8x-0.991.dll file.
