@ shallow, I'm using Audition to edit audio clips that I subsequently use either as takes in Record or as samples for Reason's samples. I also use Audition as a wave editor in conjunction with Ableton, in much the same way.
Some of the primary functions for me are stuff like noise reduction on an audio clip. I am really into "field recording" but the material will usually need some editing prior to using it as a clip or sample within a project.
To clarify, [1] I am not in the business of building multi samples of instruments: for that stuff I tend to rely on commercially or freely available Refills. and [2] for loop based slicing etc I use ReCycle, not Audition.

Hello Durin,

Good to hear AA getting a big update. Will this work on Vista 64 bit systems? I have not been able to install AA at all on my system for a few years now. It's a very annoying situation and I had almost given up on Audition to be honest.
After spending so much money on the program several years ago, to not be able to use it and for there (seemingly) to be no fix for this, is pretty appalling on the part of Adobe.
As far as I can tell, the Vista 64 bit install issue seems to be fairly widespread, with no solution I have tried (registry patches etc) working at all. Please tell me that this will be fixed.

Can you elaborate on the problem you have with install? While there were some factors with Vista that caused problems for some users, most were addressed in updates from Microsoft and were not directly related to Audition. As an aside, I've personally found Windows 7 much better for audio work than Vista. In any case, I'd be happy to troubleshoot the installation problem with you, or recommend you contact Adobe Installation support at 800-833-6687 Monday-Friday, 5am-7pm PST.

By the way...as much as I would like to move to Win 7 for AA to work...I work on my PC and use it for other mission critical things, so it's not really an option to install a new OS on a whim

Must say, in spite of the missing bits (for now) this looks good, and I'm excited to see that Adobe are ditching Soundbooth and putting their full audio efforts into developing Audition again. I hope we will see it take centre stage among Adobe's professional products once more now it is an important element of the Creative Suite. So I think overall this is very good news.

May 31 st is good for me. I've been with them since 1.5 so the 99usd upgrade is not going to break the bank.

My production process is similar to Headquest.

I midi in T3 , S1, R5/R1, Maschine and render to audio.From there to audition to normalise or compress and save and then load my audio files into S4 or Audition.

I think I posted earlier on in the game that it would drop in June. Hopefully this edition will put it back on top of the audio chain.

Does it still do rewire ?

Apparently not in this version (may be added into the rewrite later on if enough people want it). Personally I used to rewire Reason into Audition, but since the advent of Record I no longer do that - Record is for me the best mixing environment with its SSL console emulation. But Audition is still the place to go for editing/mastering of course.

Looking more at the spec it's interesting to see the OMF, XML and XMP support, which really underlines the fact this is a top-end professional tool. I expect the industry will love it. Also occurs to me that this update delivers a fairly brutal blow to wavelab/soundforge,peak/etc... Audition CS5.5 is very much the top show in town.

No need to wait for CS6 - CS5.5 is just announced and Audition is included right now (well, from May) in the CS 5.5 update.

Soundbooth is gone, by the way, and Adobe are putting their whole audio focus on Audition, included in the Creative Suite. I think this is great news.

Audition CD5.5 has VST and AU effects support, but does not offer MIDI sequencing/virtual instruments - Audition is aimed at post production, not music sequencing/creation.

No that is incorrect. Multitrack very much remains.

Any news on Adobe Audition 4?
