Some nice tracks entered already! I still have my doubts though about the 'Crumbling beneath you' track, the beat sounds like it's made out of samples. If the beat is indeed made with ZASFX, well, huge respect :)

Best,

Jeremy

Yes. I've asked the author to declare (as one should per the rules), but if no reply before voting it will go off the roster.

Still working on my 2 tracks. In a way they will suffer from divided attention, but on the other hand working on just one project dulls inspiration so I guess equal. Similar sounds on both, don't know which to submit yet. Still a week to go. :)

Doing my best here also. On my way to work I manage to pin down more ideas than on the way back. I do sync the data of the track I'm working on with my main PC so I can start mixing whenever I feel ok with the track. I probably won't use one instance of ZynAddSubFX/Yoshimi but as many ZynAddSubFX-DSSI plug-ins as there are parts. If my main PC can pull it off, my netbook choked on more than three ZASFX-DSSI plug-ins active at once.

Best,

Jeremy

Well it looks as if I've got something coming together :)

However, I'm not quite clear on what should be put where. Do we list here what we did and how we did it?

As for soundcloud I've never used this before. I've always used either my own website or the Internet Archive. Do I have to set up my own account or is there one accessible from here? Come to think of it how do I find the existing entries?

No doubt I'll have more questions later
It wasn't me! (well, actually, it probably was) - apparently no longer an 'elderly', now a 'senior'! Is that promotion?

The Track is called Sandefur. Sorry but we can't post the URL right now because HTML is off. Any tips to change this?

We are on Ubuntu Studio Maverick 32bit.

We used 12 of ZynAddSubFX's instruments in one instance, arranged them with seq24, a loop based sequencer, recorded into Ardour and mixed all down to stereo via CH-EQ2 Parametric EQ by LinuxDSP to get rid of some harshness in sound.
Hi, your 6th post enables html, so check out some other forums/topics and chime in with tips, questions, solutions, humour etc The are 77241 patient and understanding people
here (the windows users) 62 linux users (more now, thanks to this OSC getting some press elsewhere), and two Mac users, one a wise Irishman from China, and the other an Apple
employee hired to complain whenever a VST instrument is released without a Mac version.
 Cheers

Lol

Folderol: Yes you must list what host and effects you used as a post in this thread, see here: http://sites.google.com/site/kvrosc/rules

You don't need a SoundCloud account to upload, but it will ask for an email confirmation when you do, so why not just add a name to it to get an account while at it.

Once uploaded, the song will automatically show up with the others in the player on the site here: http://sites.google.com/site/kvrosc/osc-26-zynaddsubfx

Thanks. We already suspected this but couldn't find it in the forum FAQ. So this post is a first step ... and maybe we stumble across the wise Irishman some place or another.

He is quite an ardent Zebra user, and those Zebra synths do work well in a linux/wine setup. Since they have built-in patch browsers, a vst host app is not needed, they
can be launched by the fst command, and connected in qjackctl.

Had another major meter-pegging sound  explosion with the zyn 448 beta, while used
with 2 other commercial instruments, it happened while changing patches in zyn,
so those with expensive monitors, beware, and for general good luck, headphones should
have connectors placed for near-instant disconnects, use an adaptor cable, with the
connection by your keyboard.

That's a shame but can happen to the most renowned softwares, I had f.i. massive bursts like that with Sampletank.

Best to always put a fast brickwall limiter on the output. (I know, easy to forget)

Hi V'ger,
Could you please answer a couple of questions for me. I know it is quite late to start working on tune right now. Still, I would like to give it a try and if it will show what can be done with Zyn I will submit it. Since it is the first time for me at the One-Synth-Challange, some aspects aren't totally clear to me. Can I record sounds from the synth and make an arrangement with them, or does it have to be all midi tracks? Can I modify the sounds, pitch up/down, reverse, stretch? Can I use a compressor? Can I use automation in my sequencer? Thanks for your time. Cheers

Post

Hi, yes one week will be tight but great if you can come up with something. :)

You can record both individual sounds and tracks to audio files, but this is only to save CPU or avoid crackles etc so absolutely no processing on them after that, not even eq I'm afraid.. Arranging those audio bits is of course allowed.

Compressors are fine and automation is strongly encouraged to give life to tracks and show off the synth and sounds more.

A variety of free limiter and related plugins to try here:

A link to a new version from Jackoo: ZynAddSubFX-VDX_VST-2.4.1.452beta.zip is in the zyn forum

Hi V'ger, thanks for your quick reply. I don't really see the need for other external plugins, since Zyn has built in effects which sound really good. Problem is that so far my sequencer freezes and crashes quite often, and operation is somehow delayed with only one instance of Zyn. The timbers however are amazing, i wish i gave more attention to this synth. Anyway this is off-topic. Thanks again. Maybe there could be another future One-Synth-Challenge with Zyn, i'd love to have more time to explore it, before submitting something.

Hi aib007.

What sequencer do you use?
Also turn off zyn's GUI when you're not using it for undelayed operation.
