(Updated New Track!) Midi Film Orchestral Mock Ups Using Sonatina Symphonic

Hi Guys n gals,

My first mock up of a real orchestra via Cubase using 'Sonatina Symphonic orchestra'(all done by ear) 'based' on the original composition by Bernard Herrmann.
You got to start somewhere so i thought i'd dive in deep end, transcribe what i could hear to the best of my abilites!
Midi input was a mix of Keyboard and mouse input, not much of quantising going on..dare say i needed some. But hey i'm here to learn to better myself.


I'd love to own a commercial orchestral libray, but for now Sonatina Symphonic orchestra will have to do! Actually i bought the philharmonik Classik for $15! So i'll give that a go. Recommendations are welcome

Really good. My recommendation is keep up the good work.

That's pretty good. I've heard much worse results when using the heavyweight orchestral libraries (that isn't the back-handed compliment it might appear to be!).

Just shows that with any library good composition is the key.

Even more impressive regarding that you transcribed by ear and using a free library.

One question:
Would you perhaps share the Midi file ?
Since the Sonatina library is freely available I guess some people (including me ) could learn a thing or two about using it and about Midi orchestration in general having a look at your Midi.

(I could totally understand though if you'd not willing to share.)

Would've helped save time if i had a midi file or score to work from..but where's the fun in that? You guys have inspired me to do another..preferrably one with strings! May not turn out as good..we'll see. Just need to pick a tune.

I'll share the midi file..and i'll give you 3 reasons why that is..

1. You simply remind me of myself...you seem inspired and enthusiastic! How cool is that?

2. For years I've asked asked and asked and got nothing..what a let down!.....until one day a nice chap did the honors...and that day restored my faith in the human race.

3. I'm gonna restore your faith in the human race.


Now let me give you 2 reasons why i wished you never asked.

1. I just cracked on with this thing every day..never looked back..when i finshed.....i looked at the 'messy' midi file and thought ....is this it then?? Not exactly a work of art! I only messed about with velocities,So i'm not sure how it'll help? I suppose that's what everyone says though.


2 I need the weekend to clean it up and make it look presentable. : )

Don't know what to say really. Wouldn't have expected such a nice reply and replies like this that go a bit beyond the usual forum chitchat (in a good way) seem to make me stumble (also given that English is not my first language).
