Reverberate - Convolution reverb with modulation for Mac and PC (AU, AAX, VST)

A update to the public beta is now linked online that adds some EQ presets to the tail generator to make it simpler to generate a more natural reverb tone. These are hard-coded stereo EQs that also help to create a sense of width in the synthetic tail, and can also be used with the standard EQ to add additional time-variant roll-off etc.

Memory consumption is now reduced a little (when an IR is not active it is unloaded from memory) which should help those in 32-bit hosts.

There is also a new L/R swap function on the topology tab. The capability to swap the left and right channels can be useful for creative purposes like adding extra width that sounds a little like true stereo mode does but with standard IRs. Try configuring IR1 and IR2 with the same IR file where the second IR has a pre-delay of 20-100ms (0.020-0.100sec), is high plus low pass filtered (to get rid of muddy lows and too many highs) and importantly has the L/R channels inverted. (Credit goes to Tatsuo for suggesting this).

Sort-of... if you move the IRs (but leave the FXBs in place) and set the new location as a browser user favourite location this should be used as a search path for lost files.

Update: The OS X installer now has a customise button during installation so that the 32-bit AU can be installed in case anybody has issues with the new 32/64-bit AU.

Reverberate Core users now have got access to an x64 AU plugin with the release of v1.100. Furthermore the beta releases of Reverberate made over the past few weeks have made it into the full release, highlights are the new tails generator with EQ tints, reduced memory footprint, more presets, x64 AU and a more natural-sounding exponentially decaying modulated IRxEQ tail option.

I've just rediscovered Reverberate and dived into the world of convolution reverb and I must say that I love it so far!

So much different flavours of reverb can be had from all those downloadable impulse responses around from really expensive and classic hardware reverbs (the Lexicons, TC Electronics and Quantecs for instance) and the modulation options of Reverberate are really cool to give it some extra tickle. Also the cpu hit is quite low.

I recently re-discovered the Lex 960L samples at Practical Sampling, they're fairly lovely. Although these are parallel stereo, there is a good technique to make them sound a little more like true stereo presets: try configuring IR1 and IR2 with the same IR file where the second IR has a pre-delay of 20-100ms (0.020-0.100sec), is high plus low pass filtered (to get rid of excessive lows that will clog the mix up) and importantly has the L/R channels inverted (selected on the topology view exposed when the mixer is selected). A small update to Reverberate now allows the mix and balance to be modulated before the convolution processes (i.e. the input to the convolvers can have panning and relative gain applied to them rather than just on the outputs). This provides a much more natural sounding tail to modulated reverbs.
