Now that Z3ta is again going for $20, what is the mood for putting this on as an OSC? I know the feeling for freewares especially as some of them are so good, but let's face it that this is something special and I think $20 is affordable for everyone?

Cakewalk's site:
http://www.cakewalk.com/products/Z3TA/default.aspx
Yea should maybe wait till Tyrell's out of beta, was just assuming it would be done this month..
It's anyway just minor things left according to Urs.

Second hand synths =affordable
No-brainer deals at at least 2 big websites =affordable
dev fire/desparation sales = affordable
group-buy pricing can be affordable
Absynth 5 is affordable when its seen as 1/10th of Komplete
I've saved my $10 or $20 each time
Cakewalk has an office party or utility bill to fund,
by re-flogging z3ta, and without regrets.
If you want a cheap synth contest, at least open it up to all devs who will
hold a fire sale for the time period of the contest
Cheers

Any more votes?
Btw, Tyrell is still called beta but as good as done. Somehow you know when ppl like Urs says he will work on it that week then that's what'll happen.. Sounds pretty amazing now and great fun. Of course the stablest beta you ever saw.
Glokraw: Know what you mean. I couldn't resist and recently blew a few $ on this and some on the other, all of which I'll prolly won't be using, now regretting not saving it for some quality stuff instead..
But there are exceptions like Z3ta, a real peach.
Anyway, no real need to use commercial synths here yet with good freewares still not used, but we'll have one at least once a year, maybe continue with December as last.

Ok vote over and Free Alpha won to be the synth for OSC 27.
For OSC 28, let's as suggested earlier try a system of dedicated synth voting threads to start a week after the song voting from the previous competition is over which means 22nd of the month, and then go until start the 1st of the following month, thread to replace the song 'voting and results' as a sticky during this time.

Yeah, bummer, I like z3ta sound quite a bit. It does seem to be the only vst in my collection where the CPU takes longer than the latency compensation and audio buffer allows, for certain big pads that is. It would definitely be an intense OSC!

I suggested this earlier, but why not give JBM Jagular a one synth challenge? It is pretty darn powerful with all that is included. Selfless promotion of my own product I know, but someone's gotta suggest it, so it might as well be me.

jobromedia,
Looks like a nice synth. BTW, why has there been no more developer challenges? This seemed like a powerful and ingenious way of stirring up creativity and motivation for plugin developers.
Here's a video of JBM Jagular:

@bjporter: Hmm, never had the sense that Z3ta is so bad on the CPU. Of course oversampling will do that, but you mean regular x1 right?
@jobromedia: Wow, that is quite a good sounding synth! I actually had it installed in my try folder, but somehow gone under the radar. So you can import wavetables? Bit confused to that bit. Only trouble is with the dials in that they will only move after second touch (click), but could of course be something my end (sometimes they work on first tho). If this is a fixable non-issue Jagular should definitively be among the votees for OSC. Is this SynthEdit version 2, or is it planned?

Yeah, like hardcore... actually take the default patch, set each OSC to multi-free, oversampling 2x, set the Release on the Amp Env to 85%, then set polyphony to 16 - 32. Get rid of all the Modulation sources... then turn up both filter one, and two. Oh, and turn off the arpeggiator...V'ger wrote:@bjporter: Hmm, never had the sense that Z3ta is so bad on the CPU. Then play like a madman! My CPU is at like 5%, but the latency hits 100%
Only synth I've found so far that does that.

@ V'ger: This is developed with SynthEdit 1.017. I got SynthEdit 1.190 installed though, and I'll see if I can fix that problem. May take a while though since I had issues between SE 1.0 and 1.1; backward connectors and whatnot. But I'm going to do that as soon as I got some time free. But as for the wavetable import Jagular supports 8 banks of 64 waves each, it also supports saw sync, square sync, pulse width modulation, simple FM synthesis, super saw and pulse, white and pink noise. You can either ring modulate the oscilators 2 ways, or play them normally. You can set if the oscilators follows the keyboard or not. The MOD knob is used both for selecting waveforms and altering a parameter specific for the other oscilator modes. Regarding the filters it has 9 different filter modes. I know that the filter has a tiny bug in it too, so I'm about to recompile with 1.1 just to fix that issue.
@ bjporter: That video is good, but it doesn't do the plugin justice methinks.
Anyways off to bed now.
