RMV envelopes?

I can't figure out how to use envelopes to control parameters in RMV using Reaper. I read the RMV manual and I get as far as "Select an RMV parameter with the mouse and then send some MIDI messages to the RMV from your MIDI source." but I don't know how to send MIDI within a DAW. I tried just tapping on a piano roll key but nothing seemed to happen. Is it simply not possible to get track envelopes for RMV like I can with all my other VSTs? This seems like a serious shortcoming. If someone could walk me through how to control RMV parameters through a DAW like Reaper I would greatly appreciate it

I dont know much about Reaper but usually you can draw any kind of "control envelopes" in a dedicated edit window of the DAW which then is sent to the plugin, same for RMV. Make sure to send MIDI CC (this is something you usually can select in the DAW's Editor), its the most common one despite parameter automation (which does not work due to the large number of parameters in RMV).
