Ah the never ending "I switched to a MAC because they are better, but I still want all these inferior free windows plugins..." :hihi:

I found a couple of free JX8P patches in the internet, and will make a fxb bank.

great, liking to have in software the exact replica of hardware patches i went straight to Google and downloaded a couple of sysex collections myself to play with

Martin,- will this work w/ MKS70 "tone" sysex patches too ?

In most cases, I wiould be fine to mimik MKS70 w/ 2 instances of your synth then.
As a reminder:
A "tone" of the MKS70 / JX-10 is a complete JX8P in hardware.

Hi PeWe,

I just had a look at the structure of the MKS70 sysex format. It should be possible to read a MKS70 file and extract either Tone A or Tone B form that. I think I will add a switch which selects the tone to be imported, when reading an MKS70 file. The rest of the tone-parameter data has the same format, so that should be easy.

Cheers,
Martin

Well,- that's most excellent news !
The idea to implement that switch is excellent.

thx for all your work and time investment.

good luck and all the best

second that, SE allows that easily
I put a drop down menu into the 'settings' panel. It will be in the new version.

k, I'm not keeping up here. Is the MKS70 just like the JX8P? Thus, this soft synth is also kinda a MKS70 synth too?

The MKS70 (as well as the JX10) is basically 2 JX8P in one box, which can be played in different modes, such as layering, keyboard-split, and so on, or which can be used to basically generate a 12-voice JX8P.

The pg8x compares to the JX8P. You might be able to get some simple MKS70 sounds by layering two instances of pg8x. How complex you can get with that depends on the capabilities of your host.

Cool, man, thanks. The more the merrier. :)
Do you plan to branch off this someday and make mks70 12 voicer all in one maybe?

Indeed, I am thinking about it, but it won't be very soon. I first will have to understand the patch- and voice-architecture of the mks70, and as I see it now, it won't be easy to implement this in the same way as the pg8x is done. It might require a completely new patch-store system. But I have to say that I did not give it too much thought at the moment.

well, i my self would be happy if the current version would get at least 12 voices, to be able to use it for pads. the reason why i bought the jx10 back the was exactly this - the jx8p didn't have enough voices to convincingly play pads - and that's what those machines did best (not that they couldn't do anything else, but pads were their absolute strength).
so, yeah, i'd love to see 12 voices on the current version...

Hi there,

after a long while with lots of problems, I finally have uploaded a new (and hopefully final) version of pg8x.

New features:

* patch selection list in 'settings menu'
* rudimentary sysex import: the plugin should be able to understand JX8P and MKS70/JX10 Tone Sysex dumps. So far, patch sysex are not supported. Furthermore, it does not understand the "write programme" sysex command, that means that some sysex files, containing several tones will not be read correctly.

This version is compiled with the latest version of Synthedit, and I hope that this fixes the Reaper problems. Please let me know!

Cheers,
Martin

Cool, thanks!
But.... I never got it to fail in any version of Reaper. :D

Sounds very good, thx for this. :tu:

Although I had JX8P back in the day (swapped for a car stereo can you believe), it's been so long I can't really remember what it sounded like but some of it is coming back now.. 8)
