DevonB,
I am not trying to start a fight... but nearly every trance track has a few notes, chords or what not doing some sort of filter sweep. I understand what you mean, but eventually someone is also going to play c-major chord with a filter sweep and a supersaw pattern.

for gods sake... save it! its about a plugin here, not about copyright. for demo purposes, you may (even perfectly) recreate a copyrighted song, since it shows the plugins possibilities, and is not intended to be sold as a song. seriously. this is ridiculous.
back to topic: great job adam! hope to see some additions maybe, but a truely great start for your first plugin!

Do not get you either. The whole trance scene is a big rip-off of itself, and so goes for many other trivial genres. Do you really think you can copyright a chord progression with a specific sound? In that case 99,9999% of all trance is illegal and so goes for many other genres and maybe music as a whole. And this is not to speak of thousands of standard demo tunes and sequenses in various synths.DevonB wrote:I'm not talking about the patch itself, I'm talking about the note choices; those sounds AND the chord progressions are from well known songs in the trance scene. Use the same patches, but for goodness sake, don't rip off someone else's music to make your point, that's all. Someone else's lawyer might get cranky. The names of the songs are on the tip of my tongue...

What is it with you and this synth? Are you sure that it is the copyright issue that really motivates your objections?

to my ears all trance tracks sound alike anyway LOL, probably just because of neglect for copyright (and originality?), double LOL

I have to agree with the last few posts - using a few chord progressions to demonstrate a particular sound isn't going to deprive anyone of anything. C'mon, you have to draw the line somewhere, and in this case it's very much on the right side...

A big congratulations to you Adam on your first synth project. Your trance sounds are top-notch so I'm sure the factory bank will be too. Good luck with your sale!

I would liken those riffs to playing the bass riff of 'smoke on the water'. It's not like he's selling the file on soundcloud calling it his original work.

That is done all the time in sound demos... there is zero issue or problem with itDevonB wrote:But you can copyright the song. If that 'gutiar' is playing a song from Metallica, Blink 182, or any such band, the songs have their own copyright. Your audio example is playing well known songs.adamtrance wrote:Also I dont think you can copyright a patch. I mean its just a sound. So a song that has a guitar is a blatant rip-off of another song that has a guitar? Its the same sounding guitar...

When it's about Hypersaw/Supersaw i currently rely on the samples + patches i made for my PPG Wave 3.V factory ssounds. Those are based on my "HyperOSC" synths which i made in AAS Tassman 4. I curently was able to use the same samples in my Yamaha Motif ES 7 and the Waldorf Blofeld (with SL upgrade) too. In the Blofeld i could combine a "Hypersaw" sample with a wavetable which results in a Virus TI style sound.
Other synths for this kind of sounds i currently got are e.g. Dune, Sylenth1, Strobe (from Synth Squad), Synthmaster 2.5, Superwave P8 (free version) and BLOK Modular. Before i forget i still got a Virus TI desktop which i'll maybe sell when i finished my next bank for the Blofeld.
BTW the graphical display of the waveform in OSC section of the JP6K seems to be copied from the Virus TI VST plugin, just with a different color.

Yes, the knob is copied from the Virus TI, and the GUI is copied from the JP-8000, and the oscillator is also copied from the JP-8000 and the MP3 demo is ripoffs from famous artists... Im wondering how Im still not in jail yet
