Thinking of getting an iPad to use as a MIDI controller - anyone here used both these devices and can share their thoughts?
My main concern with the iPad is LATENCY - how well do they work? I mainly want to use it to control synths, and have lots of paramaters easy to access, is this realistic?
I briefly owned an SL and really liked the way it would pick up a synth and automap it - just searched and found iPad also now has automap, anyone used it?
[Please forgive cross-posting, think I got it in the wrong place last time]

The new software coming for the iPad is cool..but these are SUPER NEW and even with a warranty there is no promise that its going to work the same every time. I have used the ipad for short ammounts of time but I just couldnt see buying it to replace a actual midi controller. and its just...iunno I wouldnt try to use ONLY a ipad it seems risky. Akai actualy makes Midi controllers for the Ipad now so i would imagine that for professional music production the ipad alone is just a novelty..in my opinoin.

Hmm ok - surprised, what do you have against the ipad vs. faders?
I already have an NI Maschine and a basic MIDI keyboard which serve me well, it's just synth editing where I lack a decent interface.

I dont trust the ipad, There just to new. If it was a live show noooooo waaaaay would i entrust my set on that thing. Its all about you though man. I personally would rather feel a fader in my hand then just a touch screen..there always ethier to touchy or not sensitive enough...Really though man let me know how it goes for you and if you do decide to go with the ipad make a video if you can im interested to see how it works for ya.

Sorry - I didn't mention I'm definitely not fussed about using it live - it's just for studio stuff really and to speed up the writing process.
Leaning towards a Novation Remote SL Zero a bit now, but there are just so many other things you can do with an iPad... clip launching in Ableton interests me in particular.

I've got a novation 61SL which is my main controls for plug-ins but the ipad is coming out with many very cool control apps. I'm someone who also likes to have the feeling of knobs and faders but none the less, I also love some of the apps on ipad, like touchable and griid for ableton control, or Omni TR for Omnisphere. Works great alongside a novation SL (and Kore...)
