not to be argumentative (just to be very clear), how is using something like stormgate to, rapidly, shut on/off the sound any different to cutting up audio to represent the shutting on/off of the sound ??...meither of these are possible from the synth, aloneV'ger wrote:Yes use the synth to the fullest, making your own sounds and DAW automation are strongly encouraged to show it off, but presets alone are of course also fine.
Same with external effects. Even gaters are fine as that is just another way to automate the volume etc in the DAW.
Chopping of bounced audio is not so ok as it's something which the synth couldn't do, so the rule is set that once things are bounced, that's it, no more processing. But you can of course get close to this by DAW automation anyway.
Iv'e heard the demos mate, very nice. Got alot on with Synthmaster for now though so maybe in the near futureNielzie wrote:You should definately give MorphoX a try some time Rob. It's good stuff.rob_lee wrote:I want Morphox i think it's time to enter![]()

Yea I know the difference between those isn't big, but Stormgate or DAW automation gating can't retrigger sounds and with audio samples you can also jumble up the order of a sound after cutting etc.ebow wrote:not to be argumentative (just to be very clear), how is using something like stormgate to, rapidly, shut on/off the sound any different to cutting up audio to represent the shutting on/off of the sound ??...meither of these are possible from the synth, alone
o, gotcha...thanks for laying it out for meV'ger wrote:Yea I know the difference between those isn't big, but Stormgate or DAW automation gating can't retrigger sounds and with audio samples you can also jumble up the order of a sound after cutting etc.ebow wrote:not to be argumentative (just to be very clear), how is using something like stormgate to, rapidly, shut on/off the sound any different to cutting up audio to represent the shutting on/off of the sound ??...meither of these are possible from the synth, alone
Just to background this, I know there are purists here who don't even do much automation if at all to keep it synth only, but it can get static with nothing or only onboard LFO's (which is basically parameter automation). This is no doubt respectable and makes it more of a challenge.
On the other hand there's obviously a long tradition in synth music of using more than LFOs to vary sound from turning knobs by hand when recording, but since we are in modern times and can do this by writing it beforehand in the DAW that's what we do.
But sample manipulation is altogether different. While there are still arguments for and against, the simple fact is that one is no longer using a synth, but a sampler. Whether samples are loaded via a VST or by using the DAW, it's still sampling, that's why the rule is set against it when it's a synth competition. Only exception is to save CPU etc when that is a limitation.
Wow! Thanks very much (and I look forward to your track beating it!) More good music for all!gorgorgathgorgorgor wrote:Ancient, I just got a chance to listen to your entry, and you are my hero. Only trouble is now I have to try and beat it!
I'm assuming that it's OK if you're a contestant.boyd12 wrote:I really want to enter the competition, but I haven't got 20 forum posts yet... I am registrered for a while now. So if i get 20 forumposts before I enter my entry, can I still compete then?
Or do you have to got 20 posts at the start of the competition?
My guess is that they don't want any contestants to get all their friends to sign up for KVR accounts just to vote for them. I'd have to agree; after all, anyone with 20 posts or a contest entry has at least invested some time and effort into this community. No voting for yourself. Voters must have had 20 prior forum posts OR participated in that month's contest (emphasis mine)
