Nah, the older I get the more I want to shred. I want to play at blazing speeds and move all over the fretboard like buttah. It'll never happen and I can't write that style of music anyways but doesn't mean I still don't want to

Agreed, partially.
There are shredders out there with great tone imho, often not my cup of tea but still that's serious stuff and should be considered in development just like any other style / tone.
You probably meant something else though, bastardizing classic amps for white noise, and here I'm with you all the way.

Careful what you wish for !

It starts with running down the fretboard like buttah, but the older buttah gets the smellier it becomes.

Playing slow and reasonable (maybe even with a bit of taste?) isn't really hard. It's getting my lemming sized fingers to move faster......I'm stuck

I've seen all the practice videos, I've got the foundation of what I need to do. But I guess at 46 it's just asking too much

Maybe do more learning off records (or empisree like you kids say

) ?
Personally videos don't teach me much, putting on a great song and learning it note for note does, trying to emulate the typical phrasing and tone of a great player.
A little bit of every song I learned tends to stick (and come out in the most unsuitable moment

)

But back to the original topic, all we heard was one slightly less inspired clip.

I did that back in the seventies (and a wee bit into the 80's) I can hum (in key) guitar solos from so many classics. I was actually pretty good in high school but not being trained musically at that time (not saying I'm an expert now) and having to get jobs straight out of HS led to it's demise.

Besides, playing bass was more in demand, easier, and provided PAYING gigs! Too bad about it not being my true love

Still, for me it's the best way to learn besides jamming, and it's fun (as long as the song choice is up to me).

Well, when I'm at KVR I'm always mainly thinking of amp sim development, and I really do think that the reason sims are still so far from the real deal is, at least partially, that too much attention is paid to the opinions of speedsters - the static, non-evolving tone of most (all) sims sounds fine to them because their staccato style often leaves them with no real ear or appreciation for that kind of vintage power amp compression thing.

Because it sounds fine with short speedburst note clusters they just figure the model is fine when it couldn't be further away in feel. I don't know...tilting at windmills I guess...I know sims can be a lot better, but their development (as well as their tone and feel) seems to be static for now.

I agree that the playing style in the Soldano clip isn't what is normally associated with the amp. We have another 2 clips at the ready for the Soldano. Soldano 2 is really nice, I think it will please (or at least appease!) all of you.

I'll see if I can expedite posting it.
