Just bought Rhino and so far I'm loving it but I'm struggling to get it to import SFZ - one of the reasons I bought it in the first place. I use Wusik, Dimension Pro and Shortcircuit which all use SFZ and so I have quite a few on my hard disk. I've tried copying SFZ files and the associated samples into the Rhino waves/external folder, I've tried saving them into it directly from SFZed and Highlife 1.4 but nothing seems to work. In Reaper, Rhino either reports an error message and then crashes when I try to load them, or it doesn't report an error message and crashes anyway, or occassionally Rhino can't find the file at all.
Can anyoune help? Is this a Rhino problem or am I doing something wrong?

Have a look at the "anomaly" sfz files in the waves/external folder. You have to create a directory structure in waves/external, this will define how the waveform will be accessed through the menu, e.g waves/external/dexterbella/mywaveform.sfz

Then in mywaveform.sfz you have to make sure the path to the wav file matches a path in waves/samples, e.g if your sfz file defines:

Code: Select all

<region> sample=mywavfiles\wave1.wav
Then you need to put wave1.wav in waves/samples/mywavfiles

Like 'Tick says, there is a little extra work involved....

For the Anomaly sounds, to store the individual .sfz files I had to create three folders under the waves/External folder.

So the directory structure looks like:

waves/External/Anomaly 1
waves/External/Anomaly IV
waves/External/Anomaly VI

Then - recreate that same folder structure under the Samples folder:

waves/Samples/Anomaly 1
waves/Samples/Anomaly IV
waves/Samples/Anomaly VI

These folders hold the actual .wav files.

Here is a sample of an Anomaly IV .sfz file:

<group>
lovel=0
hivel=127

<region> sample=Anomaly IV\Mysterious EyesC4.wav
lokey=0 hikey=127
pitch_keycenter=60

I hope this helps.... :D

Thank you both - this makes things a lot clearer!
Is there any likelyhood a future update might allow you to entire a second user path - ie so Rhino can access your SFZ files that aren't stored in it's root path?

Yeah, quite possibly. Meanwhile, have you tried using shortcuts ?

I've tried putting shortcuts in the waves/external folder but they don't seem to show up in Rhino?
