This looks really good: I find these slightly alien controller schemes great for nudging me out of creative ruts or taking me in directions I'd never usually explore. Are there any plans for a 'lite' iPhone or iPod version, perhaps with only a single surface?
Architect, the modular MIDI toolkit, beta now available for macOS, Windows, and Linux.

If this helps jog people in a creative direction I'd be very pleased. It's been useful so far in my own music making.CPB wrote:This looks really good: I find these slightly alien controller schemes great for nudging me out of creative ruts or taking me in directions I'd never usually explore. I've been thinking about an iPhone version, actually. I think it would probably have to be a single pad but it wouldn't be very hard to adapt the current code to support both layouts. I'll take a crack at it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Marcus Padrini, from the Brazilian website http://musicapps.com.br/ has done a very thorough review of MidiMe here:

Including a great demo of MidiMe controlling the X-Y pads in FM8:

I've gotten confirmation from my testers that this works over USB with Apple's camera connection kit too, so you can use MidiMe with or without cables.

Hey man, I saw this on Matrix synth... didn't know you were the dev behind it. Cool. Gonna get hooked up as soon as I get home.

Excellent. If I know your tastes at all, I think you might enjoy it.justin3am wrote:Hey man, I saw this on Matrix synth... didn't know you were the dev behind it. Cool. Gonna get hooked up as soon as I get home.
I'd love to hear where you think it can be improved too.

I've been thinking a bit more about this and I'm less inclined to do it now. It wouldn't be hard at all to adapt what's currently in the app to the iPhone, but I don't think I want to be committed to supporting such a small screen indefinitely. There are several things I want to add eventually that would only really make sense on a bigger screen.CPB wrote:Are there any plans for a 'lite' iPhone or iPod version, perhaps with only a single surface?

I got it now, and I love it. I've been looking for something like this for a long time. Just tried it with the morph function in FM8, very much fun, only tricky to set the X/Y axis with MIDI learn.. Have to check the manual to see how to type in MIDI ccs in FM8.
Anyway, great job, the only thing I really miss right now is a way to save your presets and motions.
Have you been thinking of evolving this into another more fully-blown MIDI-app? That would be great, to have this on one page and then slide to another page with keyboard with similar unusual functions, etc. I have lots of ideas for this.

Great to hear you're enjoying it!
Have you tried temporarily disabling the X or Y axis with the blue buttons? That makes it easier to learn CCs on plugins.
I'm working right now on preset save & recall and it's almost done so expect that in the next two weeks or so.
I want to keep this app really simple so I'm being careful about what features I add. However, my iPad is currently my *only* midi controller so I'd personally really like to have keys and/or drum pads too so it's a definite possibility.
Also, I'd like to encourage anybody that's enjoyed MidiMe to post a short review in iTunes. It's hard to stand out in the app store these days and a few good reviews can make a big difference. Some apps put in nag screens to ask people to post reviews but there's no way I'd do that in a music app.

Yes I've tried disabling Y axis (good feature btw) but it's almost impossible to get FM8 to assign anything other than x axis movement for some reason. I must do something wrong with the MIDI learn.
Great to hear presets is coming.
Yes I agree you should keep the app simple, it's perfect in it's simplicity as it is, but you could evolve it to another, complimentary app, a PRO version if you will. It's such a good idea to build on I think. My dream MIDI app would be one page of this, one page of something like the MIDI Pads app, a keyboard page which would have some unusual features like sliding the keys for pitchbend (or assignable cc) and a scale function, some kind of sequencer page with both traditional step sequencer and some novel ideas, like the tombola sequencer in OP-1 for example, and a mixer page where you can assign sliders and pots to your DAW.
And to top it off, all of this should be editable, so you could drag your x/y pads and keys and sliders around to create your own setups, of course.
Sorry to get off topic, one can always dream, right?
I gave MidiME a 5-star review now btw.

Thanks very much for taking the time to write a review. It really helps.
I'll definitely keep your other suggestions in mind. I want MidiMe to be something that's dead simple for new users to understand, but I'd also like it to have some room for growth for more sophisticated users. Extra pages with keys etc wouldn't be too hard and I've got some ideas for fun & funky arpeggiators too.

Bought the app. Perfect. Hooks up dead easy on windows with rtpMIDI.kuniklo wrote:

.
Re the quote, am I missing a midi learn function somewhere?
What's the best way to find CC nos on a plugin?
Cheers

There's currently no midi learn within MidiMe itself. If your plugin supports midi learn then it's easy to get them working together but if your plugin has hard-wired CC numbers then you'll have to consult the documentation for your plugin and set the corresponding number in MidiMe yourself.dixie237 wrote: Re the quote, am I missing a midi learn function somewhere?

Midi learn is something I might add in the future though, because it certainly would make dealing with the latter sort of plugin easier.
Great to hear you've got it working! Please send any other feature suggestions my way.
