Working fine with Sonar X1 in Win 7 32 bit.
The factory presets sound very close to the real thing on this version. I haven't fired up my real 8P yet to compare , almost don't need to as it just has that 8P personality.
Well done for making such a warm sounding vst.
Thanks

The strange thing is that the software sounds warmer than the hardware with the chorus on. My jx sounds almost identical to the plugin when the plugin has chorus off. Is anyone else experiencing that?

I get the same message "Some parameters could no be loaded. (... of ...)" in Cubase 5 and Tobybear Minihost with the Kujashi banks and the factory bank, but not with the pg8x-init bank. But it seems the patches are working o.k.!grabme wrote: I cannot get certain presets to load from the factory library. I get 'some parameters could no be loaded 17 of 152
After re-saving the banks in Tobybear Minihost the error message is gone.
For free, try JXEdit (JX8P & MKS-70 editor):grabme wrote: Can anyone recommend a good windows sound editor for the jx8p?

I can only compare with audio demos from the net.
Orginal Roland JX8p factory patches audio demo (mp3, 128Kbps, right-click to download):

Hey, all!
I just donated 10 pounds, about $17.00, to encourage Martin on the continuing developement of his JX8P softsynth emulation; can that influence some of the rest of you guys (that can afford it, of course!) to donate a few pounds as well?

Thanks for the kind words. Regarding the patches, have a look at my previous post. The warning should not affect the sounds, and the 'Copy XX INIT' patches are just the 'hole' in the patch-space, where the cartridge would sit. I left intentionally did not move the patches, in order to keep the same programme numbers.grabme wrote: Just trying this alongside the real thing and so far I think it might even sound better than the real thing, I'm trying desperately to prove otherwise! It's definitely one of the best sounding vsti's I've played with.
The piano preset is nicer for starters and a lot of the patches seem much more playable for some reason. I cannot get certain presets to load from the factory library. I get 'some parameters could no be loaded 17 of 152 and there seems to be patches Copy 17-47 with INIT against them. Is anyone else having this issue?
As you can see from the version number (1.00) I was hoping that this would be the final release. Unfortunately, I still get the crash reports in reaper and Cubase 5, when using a 32bit host in Win7 (64bit). I think I have identified thanks to thorau for numerous tests!!) the culprit, but I have not managed to fix it yet. Strangely, the problem occurs in a part which only contains standard SE modules...maxxxter wrote: Hi Martin!
So when can we expect the release version?
The _real_ version 1.00 will come out once I fix that problem. I will not change anything about the sound, and also will try to do everything possible to keep it patch-compatible. Hence, if the current version works for you, you can consider it as 1.00 since the fixes will have no effect.
Yes, the chorus is still not quite the same as the original. In a way, it is cleaner, since the hardware chorus is quite noisy. But for my ears, I am quite happy with the current chorus in the pg8x. In fact, you can adjust some chorus parameters in the 'SETTINGS' panel.grabme wrote: The strange thing is that the software sounds warmer than the hardware with the chorus on. Thanks very much! Much appreciated.goldenanalog wrote: I just donated 10 pounds, about $17.00, to encourage Martin on the continuing developement of his JX8P softsynth emulation; can that influence some of the rest of you guys (that can afford it, of course!) to donate a few pounds as well?
Let's all keep the fingers crossed that I can find a fix for the strange crashes.
Cheers,
Martin

There's no shame in a version number that's not a nice round number Martin. In fact, it indicates that the product is being maintained. (Many users, including myself, fear version 1.00 of ANYTHING.martin_l wrote: The _real_ version 1.00 will come out once I fix that problem.
It also, of course, helps keep track of the versions. Someone who downloaded 1.0 before your recent change to the presets might not realize (without reading this thread) that some contents have changed.
You're feature-complete now, and your Beta testing phase is over with mostly positive results, so by all means you should consider it version 1.x now. But as every developer can tell you, software is never finished. There'll always be something you want to fix, add, or improve. So start incrementing those version numbers!
You might also want to consider using the "release candidate" system. So you had 1.0 RC0, you're now on 1.0 RC1, and 1.0 RC2 is coming soon. This way you can keep your nice round number reserved for when it's bug free (which it will never be, I'm sorry to say, but we can get close).

Visual C++ redistributable package does not solve the problem.
PG-8X v1.00 still DOES NOT RUN on Windows XP Service Pack 1 (32-Bit), while earlier versions of the plugin DO RUN.
!!! v0.99 DOES WORK on XP SP1
!!! v1.00 DOES NOT WORK XP SP1
why??
I wonder what is different, where is the change 0.99 to 1.00 that would require SP2 ?
I would like to ask you to take a look at this, pretty please.
Thanks a lot

The main difference is, that I upgraded Synthedit from Version 1.1730 (quite antique...) to the current version 1.1906. When I updated, I needed to up upgrade the resistributable package as well, otherwise SE would not run.akademie wrote:Martinmartin_l wrote: For SP1 you might have to download the appropriate version of the Visual C++ redistributable package. Unfortunately, it looks like we have a problem here. I am not sure whether I can (or want to) go back to an older SE, since I already saved and modified the plugin with the new version. And it looks like SE really requires the redist package for VC++ 2010, which requires service pack 2 as minimum.
I still have an old installation of SE on another computer. I can try whether I can still compile version 1.00 there and pm to you. But I cannot guarantee that it will compile. Also, I might want to include new features of SE in future, which are not available on the old version.
Which redist package did you try? Did you try whether it runs with the VC++2008 package for XP SP1?
Cheers,
Martin

XP SP1? Are you serious? You really ask for support of an almost 9 year old OS?akademie wrote:Martin

@akademie
"Never change a running system", but SP1 is really to old. At least, update your system to WinXP SP3, it's working very well and costs you nothing.
If you're unsure, make a backup of your system before.
