chrisby wrote:I haven't really been following this thread and am not posting this to call anybody out or piss anybody off but for those that are concerned with attaching their DAW to the net (understandable) you might look into some disk imaging software (e.g. Acronis True Image or similar). If you keep your system disk disk separate from your projects and samples, taking or restoring an image of your system disk should take only a few minutes. Plus it's good to keep checkpoints as your system evolves anyway. The backup images taken with these type products are done at the sector/track level so a restore will truly put your machine back to the state it was in when the image is taken.

For me I have a shortcut on my desktop for my network connection and it usually disabled. If I absolutely have to get on the net I right click and enable it, do what I need, and disable it again. If for any reason I'm worried that my machine was compromised I'll just restore from the last checkpoint image.

True Image often is free from various etailers with rebates and it really is pretty handy to have around anyway...
I regularly do disk images, you're right about that. :tu:
Still, my system is as clean as it gets, this is a workstation.
I won't go into compromising that with antivirus, firewall, current browser, security tweaks and all that for a, let's call it unfinished  , software authorization scheme, ever. I'd even change my host for that reason, fortunately Syncrosoft has never given me issues since SX 1. Fingers crossed ...

Your way of switching the NIC clashes with some C/R schemes btw, e.g. Toontrack.
There are workarounds, true, but you see where that www road leads ? :help:
I have a dedicated internet PC optimised for these tasks, but it has no real audio interface as it's not needed.

that's the fact. plus, noobs-pc-management-paranoias aside, the daw could also be where there's no internet.

...and what's possibly wrong with saying it's a whack idea, even worst than a dongle? ffs.

ok, I'm beginning to think you are doing it on purpose. That's the worst yet.

So, lets try something. ZC let me ask you this honestly. Do you think that audio clip for the Tiny Terror sounds good? Forget tone or style, does the clip sound good?
Haven't listened to it and I honestly don't care to. When it's released I'll demo it. If I like it I'll buy it. It's that simple. I've long ago learned to not bite on hype bate and make decisions about a purchase based on audio examples. What I do know is that so far I've not pass on any version of Amplitube so I can't imagine this one will be different. I do remember thinking the presets that came with Fender sounded horrible to me, yet when I cooked from scratch I got some amazing sounds out of it.

Brian @ IK Multimedia wrote:New gear you add is tied to your ATCS serial number, which is authorized the same way as always, and shows up on every system you install on. You only need to activate it once per new installation. If you installed a second copy of AmpliTube on your laptop, for example, you simply go to your account menu in the Custom Shop application, and click the "Restore My Gear" tab. Every piece of gear associated with your AmpliTube Custom Shop serial number will be automatically unlocked inside AmpliTube 3.5.
Wait, does that mean if I "waste" an authorization for the internet machine I can transfer demos and bought models to my (constantly offline) DAW ?

It would be nice if we could get an answer to that question from someone at IK ( or should I say iK). That's the only way I would be able to use any of the new stuff.

Another mystery :
There's an entry for an "Amplitube 3 Free" in my account, dated today.
Apparently a feature-reduced free version, I suppose.
Can you use this on an internet PC to get trials/buy models for an offline DAW ?

Come on folks @ IK, why not clear up these matters once and for all, in an easy to understand, complete way instead of dropping little puzzle pieces here and there ?
This is not fun like last year's picture hunt was, this is annoying, sorry.
You could avoid so much needless negativity on here caused by rumours and guesswork, stand by your chosen business model, explain it, enjoy the praise but also deal with constructive criticism.

I accidently authorized Amplitube 3 Free, now all my Amplitube 3 stuff that I own is locked. WTF! :-o

My user area also has a second version that is just Ampitube.3 . I'm not really happy with this custom shop idea myself. I am a bargain shopper. I can't afford most of this stuff if I pay full value. Now I don't see how there will be any potential for bargains unless it is someone selling the store credits and I don't know if that will be an option. (probably not) So if I want anything I have to spend at least $20 even if I only want the one 5 dollar pedal. I have almost every product IK makes but if this is the new model they may be losing me as a future customer.

That's the problem, I've got no internet on the DAW computer. I can't even get into the custom shop.

uninstall and reinstall the previous version 3. The old codes and id should still work even if you have to re-enter them.

This is exactly why I removed challenge/response from my life. It's not worth the hassle.

Thanks. Got it working. Can't blame iK for that one. My bad.

It seems to be getting more and more like DRM/downloadable content for computer games.
