If that is your opinion then you must logically love the idea behind their new custom shop.

Think, Hink. ;)
Jens, do you think I'm stupid?
Is that a serious question that demands an honest answer?
I understand what you are saying, you are not understanding what I am saying at all. Offer different versions, not brand name models...do you get it now? Do you now understand why I say often I do not buy names...no I do not 'love' the concept of buying a Soldano model and an Orange model and this model and that model. I like the concept of buying only what you need but by adding the 'brand names' in my eyes (YMMV) wipes that out and it will become more about collecting for many.

I understand the cause of your heroic crusade.

But consequently you are also saying the models would be better if there was no brand name on the GUI. Either that or you think emulations sound automatically worse than models that do not attempt to imitate a real device. And both does not really make sense if you think about it just a bit more thoroughly.

Besides you are obviously missing the point about the update anyway. IKMM have almost always been threatening their customers with brand names.

The point about this update is the all new custom shop, which enables you to try all the individual models and then buy whatever suits you. So now it's possible to buy just the "one good model [that] will do the job".

Capiche?

My presets were not deleted after all. Very sorry IK...

After a run and some careful poking around, I found my presets. They were not deleted, they were just in the Program Files folder, which is not where the new presets go. For some reason, I always thought they were in the user\documents folder, but I was wrong. This was entirely user error on my part, and I apologize to IK for the complaining and any issues I may have caused. I've edited all the posts I made on this subject with the correction so people don't think this is IK's fault and end up missing my correction.

Sorry if I freaked anyone out at IK by calling you out publicly on something that ended up being user error. The change in the directory location really threw me for a loop and I got bent out of shape when I thought I lost all my presets.

Luckily, now that they're in the Documents folder, they'll be backed up in the future.

Err, what's the difference between a patch and a preset. And if that's not new, where did patches (or was it presets) hide in the previous version?

Post

This might be answered elsewhere but... does the new release no longer load everything you own as one big blob for each instance? Seems if I remember right each instance would take about ~250mb of memory. Not such an issue these days for most but back in the day more than a few instances would necessitate a track/freeze and archive in Sonar....

I think the rationale was so you could switch between different models w/o having to wait (which is fair enough) but if that's not how it's being used I wonder if they've allowed for that.

Yep. I'm definitely suffering from a case of Foot In Mouth disease right now. However, I'm just relieved to get my presets back...

no I do not capiche because I do not get where you have the nerve to put words in my mouth, I have no herioc crusade, I do not think that the name on the GUI makes it sound better or worse but I do think it influences some people on their choice (which is fine if that's what they want). Did you read where I said I like the idea of buying only what you like? I just do not care for the brand name thing.

I clearly am speaking for myself and that dear sir is my right...I do not like buying names (or the paying for the licensing there of), do I need your permission for my opinion?

Me too :phew:

Please do tell us how things are working out and what system you are on as some of us are just not brave enough to install right now :scared:

I feel the need to add that on a fundamental level I totally agree with you about one good amp often being enough.

My goto ampsim is still Flying Haggis, which sounds absolutely fantastic - I only wish it was just a bit more flexible regarding driven sounds.

But why should I care about it if others rather want to collect a hundred different models? That's their business - and with the Custum Shop the choice is up to everybody himself. The idea is absolutely brilliant.

Personally I'll carefully evaluate the existing models, and if there is one bass-sim and one or two amps that fully convince me regarding the fullfilment of all my needs, then I'll buy them. In any case I don't want to switch ten amps on the search for an useable sound.

okay, I see the miscommunication because we are saying the same thing but perhaps I'm not saying it as well.

I don't care if others want to collect all the sims...it's just not for me. I am a huge hockey fan, I know this guy who is hell bent on having a full set of hockey collector cards for every season and I do not see the sense in this...but it's his thing.

My point is that I am agreeing that I like being able to pick and choose (you keep missing that)...brilliant? Maybe, but they are not the first to be brutally honest. You said the choice is up to each person, well why are you not affording me that same consideration?

All I am saying and have been saying for like 7 1/2 years here, I do not like the business model of buying names. TBH my father was the same way and as a kid when he would come home with knock-off toys, tools and other stuff for me I would smile politely but was ofetn a little disapointed...then I grew up. (a little :hihi: ) This is how I was raised and how I am, now I see the logic in it as I stare at my favorite guitar that only has my name on the headstock

I can't change it, I only have mod status in the DIY thread
