Now that Apple have let FCP out of the bag, some details about Logic X leaked:

1. Downloadable on the App Store.
2. Less bloated than Logic 9 - no loops or massive sample libraries are attached to Logic X
3. Focus on mixing: multitouch compatible, can support iPad as a mixing controller, legendary consoles modelled - e.g. EMI TG, SSL etc.
4. Most VIs have been removed or are optional. Goodbye to EXS, Ultrabeat and the rest.

Leak link?

I watched the two videos for FCP 10 (almost an hour in total) and if they do the same thing with Logic, rewrite it as a new 64 bit app from the ground up and bring some of those slick methods from FCP editing to it... it's going to be... very, very popular.

FCP has some really slick new editing features. Things I've never seen before. I'm a diehard Vegas fanboy who never even thought about switching but FCP 10 has me thinking seriously about taking a very hard look at it in June when it comes out.

Apple is a monster...

removing the instruments is pretty lame tho, i use them all almost exclusively appart from fm8 and addictive drums

good news tho if they rebuild it from scratch, maybe it'll be stable this time around

My impression is that software in the app store have a lower price, so it may be fair to assume that there will be a massive price reduction like with the new FC. A complete rewrite is also good and the removal of the loops isn't an issue for me.
I however hope they don't remove exs24, es2 etc. I also hope they keep the es2 samples there.
I don't know about the new FC, does it open projects made in older versions?

Yay! This will be awesome! Even if they remove some VIs I'm sure you can have them as an option so not a big deal right? Anyway Apple yee!
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

I'm sure they keep those, they are stable plug-ins, everybody uses them .. Anyway I'm sure when you have full license you can add them even if there is some kind of basic version

All I've seen is some speculation on the Apple forums which, because the thread hasn't been deleted, has been taken as evidence of something special happening soon.

I've got more faith in the LogicBand 11 video turning out to be true than some of this.

Any idea when this will be released (or any reliable source)? I have been looking at a Logic Express purchase, but I may hold off if it's going to be updated soon.

If they're gonna eventually put Logic in the app store for download (like FCP 10 will be) they'll have to remove something or it would be a really huge download. Break up the bundles of apps like Main Stage and Sound Track Pro from the studio package I guess and just sell them separately.

Not sure about removing instruments but breaking up the bundle makes sense. When I owned Logic I paid for the bundle and I had no use at all for those other applications.

Not sure if you can even just buy Logic Pro brand new all by itself without those other apps currently. Maybe you can upgrade from Express to Pro without the bundle, dunno, but there doesn't seem to be a Logic Pro for sale by itself. Only Logic Studio.

Breaking up that bundle seems like a good idea to me. It will place Logic (the daw) at a lower price point than the Cubase's of the world. That's why FCP will only be $299... it's just that one application, none of the other stuff from "FCP Studio".

Logic 10 (without the bundle) may show up similarly at $299.

Well, that may be the rub. From what I've heard about FCP 10, the great $299 list price is universal, to buy new or to upgrade. :(

That's a method that Logic 9 users probably won't like so much if it shows up there.

Hmmm, before I sold Logic Studio, I came to the realization that I should have went with the Express version as I didn't need all the extras that came with Studio. With the removal of bundled VIs/loops/etc., I wonder if the Express version will be even cheaper.
