I have been close to buying a guitarampsim several times. I've tried a lot of demos, all IK stuff since AT 2 among them. And a lot of them were good, and some very good.

Up until now, I always decided in the end that I did not need it. After all, I got real amps when I want to record serious stuff. For simple demos at home, there's no point in getting a commercial ampsim, except maybe for the fun. And the freebies are getting better and better.

But the demos were GREAT FUN, and because of that I follow amp sim threads here at KVR, and I was really curious about AT 3.5. I really liked the idea of the custom shop, because I saw that I could get only the models that interested me, without all the crap I don't care about.

So: AT 3.5... It started a few of months ago, with IK teasing and bragging about the outstanding new version. Now it's here...

Well...

The content of this thread alone should be evidence enough. AT 3.5 is a ship that sank at the moment it was put at sea. Technical issues galore, pricing, etc.

Sinking, sinking... Unless IK do something about it really quick. Do something about all the technical issues, do something about the pricing and the way custom shop works, and not to mention the authencification. Yeah, the new "gear" might be great, but it's NEVER going to be worth it the way it is today.

And IK: The next time you pre-market and release a new product, remember that YOU DON'T KNOW if IK and AT is the best, most accurate, fantastic amp sim in the world. YOU DON'T KNOW if you are better than everyone else making ampsims. Because you are NOT. So stop telling us you are the best, the most accurate, most authentic. WE, THE USERS OF AMPSIMS (free or commercial), WE KNOW THE ANSWER. I KNOW what's the best ampsim. It'll be the one I use at any given time (I use the Revalver beta right now, I love the sound of the amps, and in my ears, AT can't compete at all. I'll most likely RV 3.5 before the beta runs out.) Any other guy or girl knows the answer too, and it's a different answer than mine.

My verdict (and I deliberately give a f**ck about the sounds): This is so far the grandest failure I have ever seen when it comes to expectations meeting reality...

SO IK: GET YOURSELF TOGETHER! THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!! IT SUCKS! I will definately NOT buy your products until IK and AT are rehabilitated. Sorry. But you made this trap for yourselves in the way you marketed this shit before it was released, and you fell right into it.

One last thing: I guess Fender, Ampeg, Orange and all the other companies that put their name into this are pissed off at you now. After all, their names are kind of dragged down in the mud too, aren't they?

So long IK, might see you again...
Way off the mark there bud.Seems to me to be a fairly decent marketing ploy, especially for all the people who already own a few of Ik amp suites. I'd say it is fairly well thought out
Way off the mark? Well first: say that I would like to buy the excact same AMOUNT of gear that is any given previous AT pack. Not the same gear, but the same amount. That would cost way much more than the previous pack, right? I can't even understand how to calculate the costs, IK haven't even included VAT in their prices. But I've understood that it would be way much more expencive

Then there is all the problems with people losing presets, losing previous paid for "gear", AT isn't recogniced, serials don't work, whatever...

And that silly solution with authencification having to be done online...

And then there is the thing with the sky high expectations that IK made from months ago. With so many people complaining, almost none talking about the great new gear, what can one say? I say failure. And I don't want to buy this product. Sorry.

Way off the mark?

I'm waiting for the page where one post takes up the entire thing.

Now back to some seriousness.

Why does this thread HAVE to be this ridiculous blurp-a-thon?

I mean, could we start another one where people that have problems can try and get help instead of "send a support ticket" or people could talk about the different new models OR talk about issues and some people CONFIRMING/DENYING that they are having the same? I mean, what a clusterf...k!

Good idea. How about one thread for the satisfied, one for the unsatisfied, one for the give-a-damns ;-)

without actually commenting on radioegg's post I will say I'm sure that when they came up with this business model they had to take into consideration with 'pre' hype that those whose expectations were higher would be disappointed. I feel this way in general, never over sell yourself or you might not look as good to some. Promise less and then give more gets more recognition imho. YMMV and this is not something that I would veto a product over, at least not conscientiously...there are ups and downs of all marketing schemes. So I think IK has alreay accounted for the radioeggs of the world

Meh

It's just that with very few exceptions, nobody is helping each other, nobody is discussing things rationally, and people who MIGHT like the product are like "WTF"?

Support ticket? FFS, shouldn't we AT LEAST get some confirmation? I mean, there isn't ANYONE using this in x64 reaper? A simple confirm deny would suffice.

I have heard a couple of people who have done some demoing, but very little.

I haven't gotten it yet

OK: I might be sorry for the fuzz (even if it's storm in a glass of water). But my point is: IK pre-marketed this like AT 3.5 was Messiah. It is not (for many reasons.). I won't buy it. I never was religious anyway, so why did I hope this would be a trustworthy Good News According to Brian @ IK? I've seen some threads elsewhere before the release where I actually felt sorry for Brian and IK, because people got hostile. Now I don't feel sorry for them. Yesterdays release and the problems people have had shows that IK is on the wrong track. That's too bad, because AT is one of the better sims, and the custom shop is a good idea.

elxicano wrote:I'm in the spot as chj... This looks appealing for me since, I don't want all the "bloat" either, and I like the option to pick and choose my components as needed. I already have GR4, which I like mostly for the "FSU"!

I just keep wondering if something similar will be done with TRacks?
T-Racks already offers singles. Best time to buy is probably right now

As for the Custom Shop, I liked the idea of being able to get just what I wanted and nothing I didn't. But I just did the math and even if I picked components very conservatively, it's much more economical to just get Amplitube 3, especially since I qualify for the crossgrade.

I think someone at least attempted to explain that a while back

I have to say though I'm currently confused.

I applied the code in the custom shop, but when I go to purchase and item it just says its going to deduct from the points I bought. No option to use the redeemed points
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

I hope you don't get mad at me for saying but this thread has been mostly about that.

Yep, you must be logged into the account to auth (any of the auths) It has been discussed Ad nauseam how much people are upset about this. You only need to be hooked up for authing, so you don't have to stay connected unless you are demoing new products.

I went back to the beginning of the this thread. It has been asked but never answered. Did someone try to explain in a different thread?
