Might sound silly to some but this placing random files all over my system stuff is starting to get as annoying as Dongles
I just don't understand the whole clog the folder thing, i mean how do you clog a folder ?
Preset files in a preset folder inside the plugin folder, how is that an issue, no other dev struggles with it.

I'm not really disrespecting Valhalla personally on this i just don't get it and have been looking forward to this plugin :( (And for the record, i make plugins and have no issue putting presets in a preset folder next to the plugin)

Actually, cross-platform presets are a big issue for developers. I'm talking AU, VST and RTAS, on OSX and Windows. 80+ DAWs. A folder that is relative to the 32-bit VST .dll may not be relative to the 64-bit VST .dll. And the RTAS won't have any idea where these are (and there will be Windows RTAS, but the VSTs are coming out first). If you move the VST plugin folder, the cross platform presets are FUBAR.

So, all presets go in a directory that is not relative to any specific installation of the plugin. All instances of the plugin know where the presets are, no matter which of the 80+ DAWs are being used, no matter where the specific .dll or .dpm is placed. Problem solved.

Choice 1
Plugin has a folder setting for its presets and stores this in an ini file
Problem solved and user hasn't got files all over his system (This system is used by most of the plugins i own)

Choice 2
The plugin searches for a preset folder next to its dll file and then looks at your specific location
If the user so wishes they can put the presets next to the plugin (This system is used successfully by Reaper)

I know it is maybe just silly nitpicking but after a hard drive melt recently i have gotten all my files in pretty much two folders directly on one drive and am avoiding anything that hammers the system folders which i am gradually bit by bit working through and removing on the DAW system in the studio.

This is essentially the method I use, except the choice is made for you. :D The factory presets are in C:\ProgramData on my Win7 machine, while the user presets are in the AppData folder in the Users directory. Those folders tend to have a LOT of plugin and DAW information in them - my preset folders share space with folders from Digidesign, Steinberg, other plugin companies.

At this point in time, the preset folder locations are fixed, and they are not going to change. I need to focus on finishing up the installer for the VSTs, and then get back to the RTAS ports.

So is the ini file editable in a text editor
That way we can put the presets wherever we like right ?

It looks like the beta testers are giving the thumbs up on the current version of the ValhallaRoom 32/64-bit VSTs for Windows, and the installer is good to go. So I should be launching the plugin tomorrow (Monday) morning. See ya then!

Will there be a discount for people who buy ValhallaRoom and ValhallaShimmer together? (I can only try...)

It's been asked. The answer is no. Again, keep in mind these are only $50.
