Cantabile PC to CC mapping?

Hi,
I am evaluating Cantabile Performer and have found it wonderful so far.
One challange that I gave myself to accomplish is to convert some patch change data to CC#s.
Here is why I need to do this. I am using a Roland FR-3x V-Accordion as my midi controller. It has a function where you can disable one row of buttons on the bass/chord side and use them as other functions (other than playing notes or chords). I want to use one of these buttons to control the Rotary speaker speed control (fast/slow) in my VB3 (VST hammond organ).
The problem is that the VB3 has an assignable CC# for this function. The Roland sends out 2 different patch numbers when you toggle the button.I have connected the Roland FR-3x to Midi-ox and have this data:

Status Data1 Data2 Channel Events
179----- 0--------0--------4--------CC:Bank MSB
179----- 32-------0--------4--------CC:Bank LSB
195----- 45----------------4--------PC:Pizz Strings
179----- 0--------0--------4--------CC:Bank MSB
179----- 32-------0--------4--------CC:Bank LSB
195----- 35----------------4--------PC:Fretless Bass

I hope these numbers (decimal)don't get skewed here. This represents pushing the button 2 times,It keeps toggeling in this manner. I would like to use Cantabile to accomplish this task.
If anyone sees some other solution please let me know,
Thanks, LooseBruce

Can't you make your accordion send midi notes instead of program changes?

Then probably "Note to Controller" midi filter can do what you desire.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. In this case I cannot send note controllers from these buttons. They do not all represent single notes (some of them are chords). They are also repeated in different positions on the bass buttons.I appreciate your attempt to help though.
It is not that I cannot accomplish this at all. I can make such changes from my FBC1010 pedalboard. It would be nice however to be able to do this when I don't have to use the pedalboard.
Thanks,

Oh, I see. One button that generates chords is something I realize here for the first time...

Referring to the official manual: Chapter 9 - Working with MIDI - page 71:

There seems to be no midi filter that transforms program changes... not sure if there is any reason for that.
:(

TI User,
Thanks for looking into it anyway. I CAN think of a reason though (Mine).
Is there some other VST or VST patch bay program that could be run through the host to accomplish this. It sounds like remapping program changes.
Another reason to do this would be for instance, on my Ketron SD-2 there is no user programmed memory. Your midi keyboard has to send the correct program changes or sysex to activate the right voices on the right channels. I have in the past used Live Styler (a software arranger) to accomplish this program mapping. On my FR-3x accordion there are MANY midi out program changes that are involved with physical registers (switches)on the accordion. They however are not programmble but have fixed PC numbers.
Thanks,

Hello everybody,

I registered especially to answer this question

Well, it should not be too difficult. For such cases I use the "midiconverter3" VST plugin from the marvellous (and free) PizMidi collection (http://www.thepiz.org/plugins/?p=pizmidi)

Put this plugin into the first lot of the desired rack and do not forget to activate MIDI forwarding to the next slot containing the VST instrument. Now You can set up any conversion (e.g. PC to CC) within any ranges You want. I use it to convert a pedals CC to Aftertouch, because my masterkeyboard unfortunately has no AT.

Hope, I could help, best regards
Dieter

Have you looked at the MIDI triggers?

It seems to me that the Bank MSB/LSB are completely extraneous and you can use the MIDI filters to do just that on channel 4, however you can always use the "45.0.32" and "35.0.32" notation for your "Custom" events. From there, you can assign that trigger to action "Send MIDI Controller Change" to whatever controller starts and stops your rotary effect.

I do something similar: on Port 1 I receive Program Change 1, and have that assigned to 3 separate MIDI triggers (assigned to "Custom 1") to send different program changes to an outboard sound module, another PC for FM7, and yet another for the XG50 VST.
