And personally I never associate spending more with getting more. I associate getting more with getting more. If downloads are the delivery system of the future, so be it. Does it really make it more difficult? If you give it some thought, resisting this change is futile. And when I go to a music store to buy an instrument it doesn't bother me one bit that the $3000 bass is on a peg near the $400 bass. Why should it? Does being near a lesser dollar instrument bring down the value of that bass?

Whether you want to admit it or not, I think, some of these comments above can be chalked up to humans resisting change.

IK's new guitar shop is a really great development and when the teething problems have been sorted it will be a doddle to append stuff to Amplitude just like Apple apps. Isn't this what we were waiting for... the future..
If Apple bring out a better product that works and is bug free then I don't care how it's distributed... I've been using Logic from the very first version and it's always been leapfrogging with other DAW's, someone designs new tools and everyone else plays catch up. So what. No problem up until now... so why all the nasty stuff? People gotta get on with each other...

No matter how you twist or turn it, people are territorial and they want to belong to a group and kick the (proverbial) shit out of everyone not belonging to the group. It doesn't matter whether you're talking about sport, work, software, phones or countries. Chimps with phones. Nothing more, nothing less.

Anyway, according to Apple, the Logic user base has largely expanded, therefore, they are supposed to be winning too.
About what will happen, you are right - it is too early to make assumptions. Let's wait to see if that "app store" split-off move is going to happen or not.

btw: I could see making Logic Studio it's own offering, but taking away the loops and instruments would be a mistake. No one is holding a gun to anyone's head to install the content.

Couldn't a similar argument be made for Final Cut? Yet apple took the time to rewrite that software, much to the joy and fanfare of its user base. Thus the speculation that Logic will undergo the same treatment.

Its been said they already re-wrote the Audio Engine for Logic 9, so perhaps a "full rewrite" is not far off.

the instruments MUST stay, all old sesions may depends on them, loops can definately go away for ever, im so tired of hearing them in all tv commercials where they asked the 10 years old nefew with his new mac to compose a theme, plus, the apple loops are awfull and dated

yeah remove the 40 GB of really crappy loops that i wouldnt touch with a 10 feet pole, not the 100 MB or less of instruments

To me they sound excellent (the ones I tried, haven't listened to the whole library) and well produced, I just fail to see their purpose. Basically finished music, sometimes lasting more than a minute.

They can sell it however they want, hey call it GarageBand Pro if they want, just don't make me rebuy all that sutff because there's no upgrade path like everything else in AppStore.

It's functional music, whatever pays the rent on the deadline. It's the EXS24 instruments that are dated as hell. How many more versions they want to sit on those awful orchestra samples?

agreed with the EXS library, those strings are pathetic, but still it's needed to maintain legacy projects, but they could add 20 GB more good sounding stuff to it
