i never made patches for any of the special alpha free versions/editions, i remember of 2 additional versions/edition at least, the "hispasonic" version and the "cm" version, but i think there were more "magware" versions... dunno the differences between these special versions either...
Well, i made special sounds for the CM (Computer Music) and the german "Keys" (www.keys.de) version, both versions are not compatible, because CM and Keys wanted to start a synth programming tutorial and both were going different ways in there tutorial so the versions were different...

But anyway, i never downloaded and installed the free version, why? I'm a owner of the full version, hehe... But if peter deliver the free version with "BT" sounds only, it was a good choice...!

iirc, the free alpha presets are not compatible with the payware alpha3 version, i might be wrong on thatone though... but if so, it's always good to have the free alpha... ;)

i indeed should be getting the special versions from somewhere... will ask peter if he still has them...

Here is a list with all the differences...

http://www.linplug.com/Instruments/Alph ... cation.htm

the main differences are...

- Oscillaotor freerun
- Ring Modulator
- LFO's
- Modulation Matrix (amount of sources/destinations)

I never tried to load presets from the Keys Version into the CM version so i don't know if it crashed or not but some things may not take effect when i look at the amount of sources/destinations in the mod matrix...!

Hi Guys,

When I downloaded AlphaFREE I got a set of (BT) sounds and they are beautiful. There is CM with sounds from (TEG) and the late (TC), they do not load. there is also an old equally beautiful set of sounds from Frank Von Haeven they load. And if you go to preset here at KVR 'Matt's Free Alpha' set are beautiful and they load.

Xenox.AFL your dance sounds for Alpha 3 are beautiful too, they do not load in AlphaFree. I think Alpha has a very beautiful unique sound, I hope for more waves OSC in the future, Dark Saw sounds good.

Absolutely loving the challenge this month, have cracked the drums issue, no noise oscillator has not really been a problem at all - as long as you abuse the mod matrix enough!

Will make up for last month's absence with 2 submissions this month, time permitting

To V'ger :

We will soon release a new soundbank for the Alpha 3.

This soundbank was made by Matt Heider, :tu:, and its a very classic AND classy Sound Design. Think Legacy feeling, with tons of highly usable patches .

SOOooo that ........ if you think that offering this soundbank to the winner is a good thing, provided that we're sure, thanks to Peter, that the winner will have the Alpha 3, just drop me a word ( Pm, Email etc )

Cheers,

Hi, guys. I'm new in the forum and i really don't know yet how to use exactly.
But i'm trying.

Let me introduce myself quickly.
I'm spanish guy 29 years old, and i like the KVR forum, composing music (ambient, trance, breakbeat, etc)
I also love free synths and this kind of stuff, that's why i know about KVR.
I'm composing music since i was 14 years old. But i love to improve myself and learn everyday more and more. The knowledge is power.
I'm learning so much about FreeAlpha and music in general thanks to this contest.

Well, it will be my first contest, so i have some doubts.

1.-This is my first reply, and i read the rules. I need to know if i can go into the contest because i haven't 20 replies yet (and also i don't like flooding)
I usually reply for some important things (like this) so i think i won't reply 19 messages more if they are not important at all.
But if there is not choice, i will flood...

2.-When i upload my completelly song (in MP3 at 128kbps) to my Soundcloud account, how can i share it for the contest? I mean, must i send a private message to KVR Staff? Or just sharing a link in this forum? (I'm asking because i didn't saw any link here yet, but there is 3 songs already uploaded to play)

Anything more for now, thanks for your patience and sorry my bad english.
Cheers everyone.

Hi IrionDaRonin, and welcome.

To answer your questions, you only need 20 posts in order to vote in the contests if you did not enter. You may always enter the contest with less than 20 posts, and also vote with less than 20 posts if you have entered. The rule is to keep people from getting their friends to make accounts and vote for them. By entering, you are definitely invested enough in the competition to vote.

On Soundcloud, when you upload your song to your own account, you can share that song to the group where all the other entries are. There are a few ways to do this, but I do it like this:
1. Follow the link on the OSC website to get to the Soundcloud group (http://soundcloud.com/groups/kvr-one-sy ... nge/tracks).
2. Join the group.
3. Go to your track on Soundcloud and click the "Share to group" button, which will let you share it to the OSC group.
4. Your track will show up in the group almost immediately.

I'm completely ignorant about these contests - are all the various patches released for Alpha users when the contest is over?
"What embecile composed this list :/"

Oh, thanks for the quick reply!

So i could participate without those 20 post. That's so nice.
That rule it's only for keep away cheaters, i can understand now. It's perfect.

Well, thank you very much for solve my doubts and for the trick to joining the group in SoundCloud to share my song.

EDIT:

A new doubt, sorry!

This rule:
External effects: Allowed but must be freeware and easily available to all[...]

I'm already using free effects in my contest song, but i want to know the "why". What is the main reason for this rule of free available effects to all?
I mean, will i need to send the song structure form in the future?
And, how could people/KVR know if contesters are really using free effects or the contest synth? (and not others)

Thanks in advance.

Welcome here Irion. :)

The free effect rule is to keep it fair so no one with lots of cash or access to to a studio with all kinds of stuff will have an advantage over others.

The 'available to all' rule is for the same reason. It's to avoid certain stuff that was free but only a few people managed to get. As example I got TC Electronic M30 for free when there was a promotion, but the download period lasted only 1 month and that was a while ago.

We don't know for sure if everyone uses only free effects, everything is based only on the honor system. I have been thinking about introducing a rule where winners have to send their projects for check automatically, but even now it's still possible to ask for it if there are doubts.

Btw, your mp3 doesn't have to be 128kbs bitrate, there's no rule about that. It just have to be mp3. But be aware SoundCloud will transcode everything for the website player to 128 (even 128 I believe).

@re_mute: It's very rare that patches gets submitted even when it was encouraged before, seems that's intellectual property jealously guarded.. 8)
