It's had an '80s PRS set for a while, some hotter Duncans

, until I got on that '57 trip, collected around 10 different used pairs over two years, was lucky to find two great pairs and sold off the rest. These are keepers, warm and detailed A2 tone and alive without microphonics.

Both are labeled Classic 57, though the bridge one is about 9.3k which appears quite hot even for a 57+

. Acoustically they match perfectly, and that's the only thing that counts.
Never seen a more inconsistent series of pickups than the 57s, both in winding and magnets all over the place.

And re the Sheraton, I only ever saw tobacco MIJ ones, it's possible the other colours only came after the unfortunate move to Korea.
I remember they did a nice Casino and a Riviera (with large HBs unfortunately, but compensated tailpiece) too back then ...
If I find a Casino in good condition I might get weak, provided funds allow.

All that said, my 2005 MIJ Tokai ES-120 with Pearlies gets equal playing time.

Classic '59 335 with tone pots @ 9 and below, @10 you get some extra bite a la ZZ or Betts.

Soulshine middle solos, taken from a rehearsal playback I programmed/played a year or so ago to audition a few singers.
Not meant for publishing, please excuse the unfinished state.
4 guitars, all JMP-1 direct to Cubase, each track is a mix of the JMP-1's compensated out and the straight out with a cab impulse.
clean rhythm and 1st lead : 2005 Tokai 335 with Duncan Pearly Gates
crunch rhythm and 2nd lead : 2003 LP Std., also with Pearly Gates
Usual DAW sweetening, a touch of Pultec, some epicVerb, some Cooper Time Cube on the guitars, nothing big.
No stomp FX at all.

Lighter ash sounds better. The swamp ash used in any great vintage Fender was super light and resonant.

With my '64 Super Reverb's volume at 6, feedback was never an issue.

I had some '57's from when that series was very first released. Yes, they're excellent pickups, I wish I still had them.

guess you were luckier than me then with the stock PUs.

And yes, the MIK and later Epis are a completely different ballgame, even if they look identical at first glance.
Still, I've heard some good music played on them, but that's beside the point of this thread.

edit: one question....how difficult is it to change the pot if it goes bad? It's a little hard to tell from the pics

It doesn't seem too tough, you'd basically just have to strip off the shrink tubing to get to the circuit board.
