Jesus dude, no need to get nasty and talk down to people.
I am so sorry, reading back it was pretty harsh. not much sleep this week, and that apparently makes me grumpy!

It may be nice, but I suspect there is an added level of complexity.
Reaper installs all in one folder, anywhere you want it

wine reaper375-install.exe

Perhaps there are some special goodies provided by the reaper folks.
Wouldn't be surprising. Their crew came up with a joystick app
you can use a logitech dual pad joystick as a midi controller, great
with all those midi-learn capable synths 8)
Cheers

Hi guys, I'm way late getting stuff done, but got a good chunk done earlier today ... so will get a track in.

Good to see a healthy number of tracks in, and good to see the thread spanning so many pages.

gorgorgathgorgorgor and michael 2, glad you have resolved your perceived differences, but hey, a bit of argy-bargy does the comp no harm ... keeps the thread bumped and gets folks engaged .... :) .... When I had time to run this comp, one of my tactics when I felt things were a bit quiet was to write something either silly as hell or outrageous so that folks would respond ... taking the piss was also a cool trick :)

..... we're not a science convention nor a church congregation where we are all obliged to breathe quietly as we nod approvingly at the words of the speaker/minister .... So I would encourage discussion, even heated discussion, and conversation where we get to know a little bit about fellow participants ... and have a wee bit of fun.

Keeping the threads active does wonders for attracting new participants, as well as voters ... so feel free to air your disputes, and throw in the odd silly post you think might get a reaction. we have had some beautifully bizzarre exchanges in the OSC threads which have been great fun... off topic is good for traffic :)

Have fun folks, hopefully get my track finished tomorrow morning and mixed by tomorrow night.

Oh, by the way V'ger, the above is in no way a criticism of how you are running the comps, I think you're doing brilliant .... my comments are more designed to encourage others to use the thread in a more fun kind of way for the benefit of retaining a dynamic community feel. :)

(Ahem ... yeager, dont you dare post that bloody conversation between myself and me!!!! )

michael2 wrote:i wasn't sure about that myself. pored over the rules (and thread) and didn't find anything about vocals, so I went ahead and sang over it. stuck to the freeware premise though for my vocals. if this is something of a grey area, I can always pull the song.
Yes live voice is not really made very clear in the rules and can see the confusion with that, will update them before next competition. But basically the synth should make ALL sounds which excludes any other sources.

Anyway terrific vocals, you might want to look at using songs with vocals for entries in the other KVR competition in the Music Cafe section here where they traditionally do well.

I don't think gorgorgathgorgorgor meant any disrespect, but I think he just wanted to explain the point of the competition.
The idea is to let your creativity be the thing that overcomes the limitations of the contest. In other words, how good is the stuff that's in your head?

It used to be that the ultimate test for songwriters was how good their material sounded with a simple "campfire orchestra", i.e. using cheap bongos and badly tuned (and often badly played) acoustic guitar. This is sort of KVR's version of that; "simple" in this case meaning one synth and some free FX that available to anyone in the world.

In any case, I give you props to you for singing; it's a rare thing for us electronic musicians to work up the courage. Keep it up!

STV
you know I usually chalk things up to the difficulty of interpreting the written word, and just ignore stuff like that. but for some reason that irritated me that morning. I think you guys are right as to his intent, and my reading into it the wrong way.

gorgorgathgorgorgor if you're reading this, sorry for getting into bitch mode; it was uncalled for. no hard feelings on my end, hope you can say the same.

will definitely check out the other challenges.
I finally got the chance to read the whole thread, It's been super crazy in Church-land (happy Easter everybody). Definitely no hard feelings, and I hope to see you in the comp again!

I was reading the rules, one question, so what "external" free effects are allowed? I was thinking I'd use a TAL delay, TAL Reverb, and a free Compressor or Ferric.

Do we avoid chorus/flanger effects that are external?

:o

Hmm, I answered my own question by reading the whole thread... DOH!
