This here is one of probably the most important thing in playing a music and doing a compose but overlooked or missed whenever possible to the newbies like me.
For example, when we see a 4/4 score it's divided.
We see 4 divided portion in one bar. And inside one of that portion you see 4 4'th notes.
Why is it? It's not only because it looks easy on the eyes, it is so because music also is divided OR tied that way.
Consider this music. It's tied fractally by 2 until the end.
Like this: [[[1 2][3 4]][[1 2][3 4]]][[[1 2][3 4]][[1 2][3 4]]] so on.
As music goes on, these ties gets bigger and bigger. We play this tie instinctively but it also can be perceived too.
When it's played instinctively it's not that important fact, but when it's perceived we can manipulated it while composing.
Consider this typical 8 beat pattern:
[KICK HIHAT SNARE HIHAT KICK SNARE HIHAT SNARE]
There is some kind of on/off patterns in there.
Kick is strong. Hihat is weak. Snare is stronger than hihat but weaker than kick.
So it's tied like this
[[KICK HIHAT][SNARE HIHAT]][[KICK HIHAT][SNARE HIHAT]]
And there is another pattern in more macroscopic sense.
[[KICK HIHAT]:Strong [SNARE HIHAT]:Weak ][[KICK HIHAT]:Strong [SNARE HIHAT]: Weak]
And probably in this sense Second [KICK HIHAT] will be weaker than first [KICK HIHAT].
This pattern goes on. Let's say, strength is expressed in numbers. Higher number stronger, lower number weaker.
[[48 24][24 12]][[24 12][12 6]][[24 12][12 6]][[12 6][6 3]]
Something like this.
If we make it longer, we will get more and more similar patterns.
This is important because every music is played this way.
The point in this pattern is, when we see a first part of tie its strong, and when we see second part of a tie it's weak.
If a note is 9th place it's power is 24 because it's in second part so it's weak but in microscopic sense it's first one so it's stronger than the rest of notes in the same tie.
This pattern is just a simple example and you don't have to play second part weaker. It could be stronger or whatever. But the TIE has to be in tact or when you play in a band you will find yourself out of beat or feel something's amiss.
