Windows drivers (the ones that are installed by Windows itself initially) usually work best for low DPC. Using updated ones supplied by the manufacturer or through WIndows update can cause issues.

I have a GTX460 and don't recall high DPC latency. Then again, I didn't do a ton of testing. I'll have to test more later to see if I'm remembering correct. I have NOT had any performance issues or glitches or any signs of spikes, and I've pushed the system pretty hard with both audio and video editing.

As I said - those drivers may cause trouble. Its best not to use either.

Yes, you need to set Windows update to tell you whats available but not update automatically. Certain updates can cause havoc with DAWs.

I know it used to be the case, but it's been a year or two or three since I stopped paying attention, and no issues on any system that have been caused by an update. I don't do automatic updates, but check manually, but I generally just check all the updates to download and go ahead with my business.

Have there been any automatic updates you've seen that have messed with your DAW lately? And honestly, without trying them, how do you even know unless you trawl the internet for info about each one?

I find that if I use anything except the standard Windows drivers for my Nvidia card, I can get pops n clicks.

I use ATI Radeon 4650HD in my DAW and always update to the latest Catalyst drivers. It has never caused a DPC issue on my system and I always clock under 50 microseconds of latency. Then again, I game on a separate machine with a GTX580 in it because I like Nvidia cards better for games.

That's strange then. With my desktop, I use the NVideo provided drivers for my GTX460, and before I had that, I used LEGACY(not even supported in Windows 7) drivers for my Radeon X1950XT. And I've never had any latency or spikes issues, etc.

So I wonder what else may have been causing that because I've never stuck with stock Windows drivers for video cards on this machine or previous ones?
