Yup, I agree. The Reason GUI looks gorgeous. IMHO the best bet between computer screen user interface and hardware look, i.e it looks like hardware but it doesn't look like a simple photo either (like the softube screenshot above).

The Reason UI designers also have a very good sense of color. Unlike some other audio software that is a mix of two or three color tones they add nice highlights and touch ups that emphasize certain controls. Very nice for the eyes and usability.

Only downside is that with today's screen resolutions Reason's UI has become somewhat small. But that is true for 98.6% of all VST plugins too.

Here are a few that I kinda like (I've never used MX4 - haven't recorded on a Mac since 2005 - just thought the GUI looks cool).

I would buy that plug even though it's possibly not the most politically correct I've seen!
OK, you've changed my mind. I would also definitely buy that! Of course, I'd never get work done because I'd be LMAO every time I open it.

unfortunately it's only a picture of a picture.

Most of the actual user interface is just stock Synthmaker knobs and module backgrounds which is a bit dissapointing to me. The photograph looks nice though! Whoever is making it (you?) should make more custom knobs and module backgrounds then it would look much better IMO.
No dude, not me, I haven't even got into developing stuff yet. Just love the picture, knobs the yes are basic but functional. I was sure the thread was "Post your favourite GUI....." (grins). Now just waiting for the ugliest/least functional thread.

I won't flood with pics, so I'll just state the GUIs which tickled my fancy:

Pretty much all Stillwell Audio/schwa plugins
Zebra 2 (Howard's fictional mod, WHEN HOWARD?!)
ACE
Largo
Pianoteq 3
QuikQuak stuff

Most soft synth and effect GUIs look eye-watteringly bad. It's a crippling disease and developers need to ensure that their products look as good as they sound. Here are a few that look less-shit (shall we say) - with Razor doing more things right than most. Just my opinion but here goes.

In no particular order:

Razor - Probably the best looking GUI out there right now. Neutral, balanced colours feel and look great.

Image

Ace - Very nice, if a little flat. Not too sure about the brownish colour palette and the graphics could be sharper but it feels and looks good.

Image

Albino - Albino may be getting on a bit but it's still one of the best virtual instruments money can buy. The GUI still feels light, fresh and sharp.

Image

Alchemy - Looks great. The official nightshade skin is miles better than the default skin and makes Alchemy feel much more slick. Colours and rendering are great.

Image

Blue - Well laid-out and sharp graphics makes Blue look as good as it sounds.

Image

Circle - The box branding is the best I've seen for audio software (apart from the FabFilter logo) and the GUI is superb even though it's far too dark. Love the Helvetica menus. Just a shame the developer seems to have completely abandoned it. There hasn't been an update in over 2 years - one of the reasons I sold my license.

Image

Drumaxx - Not particularly a big fan of this product but the GUI is extremely well done. The rendering is pixel perfect and it looks and feels good.

Image

FM8 - Native Instruments do a fantastic job with their GUIs. They're always nicely drawn and very crisp and feel great to work with. FM8 feels clean and looks premium.

Image

Guitarist - Not the biggest fan of this product but the GUI is nice. The attention to detail and the rendering is great. Feels warm, inviting and fun.

Image

Kontakt - Maybe not the best screenshot of Kontakt but the latest version looks fantastic - like all of NI's products. I love the balanced neutral dark tones.

Image

Lexicon LXP - This is Lexicon's cheaper LXP product but it looks a million times better than their more expensive PCM GUIs - which look terrible. This surely needs addressed by Lexicon.

Image

Massive - Crisp, pixel perfect rendering like all of NI's products. Looks great.

Image

Monopoly - Extremely well laid-out and pixel sharp GUI that looks great - if a little old now against products like Razor from NI.

Image

Omnisphere - There may be a few naff elements but Omnisphere looks v-good and excels in its workstation feel. The iPad Orb app adds even more depth and looks great.

Image

Predator - Great rendering and pixel sharp GUI that looks and feels as good as it sounds. Still not a fan of the wooden panels though.

Image

Xenon - Looks premium and feels right. Not sure about the naff logo in the middle though.

Image

RMV - I have a huge beef with Linplug. Their website looks crap. That frog thing next to MorphoX looks cheap and nasty but their products are first class. Albino looks good and so does RMV. Pixel sharp and well-rendered, if a little busy.

Image

Stutter Edit - It's a bit dark but there's no denying that iZotope did a good job with this. Looks very good and feels premium.

Image

Zebra - This latest 2.5 skin is much better than the older versions but Zebra still doesn't look as good as it sounds - Zebra is my favourite virtual instrument but I'd love to see it look more like a cross between Circle and Razor to be honest. Hope Urs is listening.

Image

Pro-Q - FabFilter GUIs look great but what's with FabFilter and their naff looking plug-in title strips (top left) than ruin the clean look of their GUIs. This one looks ok but some of the others look bad. Simple. Have an option to switch them off? Hope they're listening.

Image

Dune - Great layout and generally decent GUI. The graphics are too soft in my opinion. I keep wanting to run a sharpen over the whole thing. It'd be great to see a sharper GUI like Drumaxx - which feels very crisp.

Image

I decided to omit entries from D16 and Stillwell/Schwa. While they both do a decent job of photo-realistic type interfaces, I just think they feel far too fake when using them. There's something about the D16 renders having too much perceived depth that feels fake. The knobs feel unnatural to turn and it just feels cold. Same with Stillwell/Schwa. They look good but they feel awkward to use. It's a feel thing. Sort of the same feeling when using a Flash website over a nicely built CSS/HTML one. The experience feels fake and unnatural. All just my opinion though.

Thanks,
Colin
