If you haven't found the display color controls yet, they're three tiny round knobs at the right edge of the window. IIRC the color doesn't update while you turn them but changes when you release the mouse button.

Thanks for knob tips. I'll definitely give them a tweak.

More than half way to the next tier! More free sounds...

200 might be a significant launching point.

The bonus choices usually list for $40 to $60 on esoundz, and the XT sets go for $49 each on the IK site. If this "twist" that Squids is teasing us with turns out to be something good, then the 200 level will be where the group buy bonuses potentially match the retail value of the initial product.

In other words, it's the point where people will start thinking about getting on board for the bonuses as much as for the actual program.

Instead of "buy an IK instrument here and get a bonus", it will start to become "buy some sound libraries here and get a bonus IK instrument".

It's gonna get good. REAL good! This Group Buy is mainly for people that are new to IK and IK/SR Virtual Instruments (or for those that have some but not all... yet). It's great that veteran users of these products AND especially those that have participated in Group Buys who know how good these things can get. It's already tremendous what you can get for $99 but considering that there's more to come... what's not to like about that???

So you're right Torgo. No matter how you slice it the value is there.

Glad to hear it, Squids! I'm looking forward to this "twist".

I already have all five of the instruments and just about all of the libraries on the list. (And the few I don't have for SampleTank, I have for Infinite Player).

But you know from past group buys that I'm easily persuaded to jump in (perhaps even more than once) for a new and interesting bonus "twist".

Hey Squids, I noticed that the detailed Sounds Lists aren't available on the product pages anymore. These used to be great for seeing what was in the ST XL and Sonik Synth 2 libraries.
Seems like maybe they vanished when the IK products were turned into Hot Buys on the site?

I'd be interested in seeing these as well. I'm still thinking about picking up SampleTank, but since I got most of the instrument Xpansion Tanks in the group buy last year I'm wondering whether it might be kind of a redundant purchase for me.

I've got the free SampleTank2.5 (I think that's the version) and Sonik Synth. I also got in the 8 for 1 (x2) GB that went on last and have a huge library. My next buy is Miro.....
Is there a way to use the mouse scroll wheel to navigate through these libraries (instead of the up/down arrows)?
It's a real pain to use those arrows....

The key words are "kind of" redundant, as opposed to "exactly" redundant. They won't be the exact same parent samples, but they'll be the same categories of instruments.

For anyone just tuning in... SampleTank 2.5XL is a really big general purpose sound library. It has a smattering of pianos, electric pianos, organs, synth sounds, brass, woodwinds, strings, guitars, bass, percussion, etc.

The XpansionTank instrument sets and the Sonic Reality versions (same sets, but they don't come with a copy of SampleTank XT, which you really don't need anyway) are more specialized. They'll have their respective categories of instruments in much larger quantities, but NOT the same exact samples as what is in the SampleTank XL library.

For example, the Piano Collection 2 set has gobs and gobs of nice pianos. SampleTank XL would also have pianos. They'll be different parent samples, but they wouldn't give you anything significantly new and different from what you already have in Piano Collection 2. Ditto for the acoustic drum collection, bass collection, acoustic guitar collection, etc.

That's why I mentioned earlier that if we get up to six or more bonus choices in this group buy, you could probably roll your own alternative to SampleTank just from the bonuses. (Anyone who loaded up on XpansionTank libraries in last year's group buy is probably already there.)

If we reach that point, or if you already have a boatload of XpansionTank instrument sets, then something like Miroslav would probably do more for you than SampleTank or Sonik Synth.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I still want to see what's in SampleTank and Sonik Synth so I can see what I'd be getting that isn't overlap with the Xpansion tanks I have (like pop-style brass and horns for example), but I'm thinking I'll probably be sticking with Miroslav for now. Of course, that's also contingent on what else Squids has up his sleeve...he might make an offer I can't refuse! Then it might be like you mentioned earlier, buying a library and getting an IK instrument as a bonus instead of the other way around.

Since people are wondering about overlap, one thing I should get out there:

Unless the library has changed, the "real" SampleTank XL library is about 4.8 gig of sounds.

The remaining 1.5 gig is a "bonus sounds" section - and that's mostly teasers of content in Sonik Synth, Miroslav, and the various Expansion Tank titles.

The breakdown... 424 meg from Miroslav, 117 meg from Sonik Synth, 731 meg from various Sonik Capsules, 278 meg from various Expansion Tanks, and 30 meg of "instrument and vocal licks" that may or may not be available elsewhere.

Note that the "Expansion Tank" offerings are from the original line (as indicated by the name being spelled with an "E" rather than starting with an "X"). In those days, Sonic Reality also featured the Sonik Capsule series as a second line of offerings.

The Sonik Capsules and the related Expansion Tanks were combined to create the new versions in the XT series of "Xpansion Tanks" - for example, the Studio Drums Capsule and the Acoustic Drum Collection combined to become Acoustic Drum Collection 2.

There are a few noteworthy treats though... the old Expansion Tank line included some titles (all long out of print) that weren't Sonic Reality creations. The bonus section in XL includes 75 meg from "Axe" and 73 meg from "Trance Grid".

Axe featured Brazilian percussion while Trance Grid was an early loops/grooves collection. The Axe offerings include parent samples of two Brazilian percussion kits plus a parent sample of vocals.

Also, the Studio Drums Capsule included individual pieces as well as full drum kits. The XL library includes 94 meg of these in GM format and 125 meg in IK's own iMAP layout format. These pieces are NOT included in the Acoustic Drums Collection library.

So those drum bits, combined with the Axe and Trance Grid offerings plus the vocal and instrument licks, come out to about 400 meg of bonus material that is not available elsewhere.

And that brings the XL library up to about 5.2 or 5.3 gig of "unique" material.

I don't know if any of that is important to anyone, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

And in case anyone is wondering, here's a little more on the OOP "Axe" library:

On the topic of pop/rock brass, one of the other now-out-of-print titles was Brit Horns.

Last year I tracked down a copy that was still sitting on a music store shelf. But the sound library is less than 100 meg and the shop wanted $79 for it, so I passed.

Maybe Squids will get a horn section in for a recording session at some point. That's the most obvious area where SR's offerings are really lacking. The Miroslav library has nice orchestral brass, but if you want to rock out like the Dirty Dozen, swing like Miles, or throw some horns into your hip-hop creations, there simply isn't a title available from SR to cover it.

If I see Brit Horns again for less than $100 (it's still available on-line through some European dealers, but it's not cheap), I might just have to grab it after all and see how well it really swings.

It's been a few hours, so lets give the thread a bump!

ugh damn the timing of this. Been wanting to grab SampleMoog but have no extra at the moment. Something about having to move into a new house saps up all the cash :)
