How important is VST3 support for you as a customer

Just over two years old.

VST3 is four and a half years old. The SDK (which was delayed for more than a year) is just over three years old.

pfft, still nothing. I don't care if the world ever accepts VST3 as standard. It's importance to certain users is still legitimate.

Thing is, people are still jumping on board, so it hasn't exactly "died" yet either.

I've asked my cat now. She won't buy VST3 plugins or any other plugin anymore. She is still angry that DX support was dumped by so many hosts

Sidechain is so 2010. I couldn't dream of using anything else than backchain. Well, apart from skychain and surroundchain. But sidechain? Pah! Humbug.

All DAWs have different workflows, I don't call them crap just because I personally don't like them.

Have you actually tried Cubase 6? I think it's Steinberg's best yet. I hated version 4. I actually think I've tried all DAWs out there. For live stuff I use Ableton.

the fud isn't for developers, it's for users. if the users eat it, which they tend to if they're cubase users, they demand that plugins in vst2 aren't good enough, because their favorite host is the best and implements it, but the plugin doesn't. which in fact is backward - the plugin probably already implements it in reaper, but in cubase they didn't bother to implement their own standard fully and never supported it.

What FUD are you talking about? Maybe I have missed something.

VST became standard for a reason. And I thank Steinberg for that.
I don't know what features are better supported in VST3.5 other than sidechain and note expression (together with Cubase). Note expression is a VST3 feature ONLY. And I think VST Instrument users will love this feature and therefor developers have to support it in the future.

Although most users of other hosts like reaper tend to gag and see through it, i think newcomers are extremely affected by the FUD and it can lead them to buy cubase instead of another host. so other hosts are scrambling to support it so they can say "look, me too" and prevent loss of new customers. this is a very shrewd and manipulative practice for stienberg to commit to, and ultimately they're misleading customers although in an indirect way.

Whatever makes you think that you are smarter then everybody else in this case? If end-users don't see any benefits with VST3 - then they will not care. It is as simple as that. End-users don't care about how hard it is to implement.

*IMHO*, Reaper's GUI and it's plugins are extremely ugly even though it is a great and also cheap program. Also, Reaper doesn't have all things that Cubase have - not even nearly - that I personally actually use. Reaper will have VST3.5 support in the future, don't you think? Will you leave Reaper because of that?

i can only hope it comes back to kick them in the ass in the near future, but anyone who knows anything about the business world or the typical customer's exposure to facts in marketing (non existent facts?) should know they'll probably get away scott-free with heaps of customers from other hosts.

well if you didn't understand "anything" i said, you should probably read it again instead of asking for clarification because i insist, it's all there in the original post, even easy to understand directly from your quotations.

yes reaper's gui (i'm told, "if you customize it then...") is hard to use, but it does apparently do the impossible - it supports vst2 sidechaining. attacking it for any other unrelated issue like it's gui is just another fallacious argument.

As a Nuendo/Cubase owner I just tried out and bought DMG's COMPassion and it works fabulously. I can now sidechain till I am sick of it.....and I for one am exceedingly happy that he went vst3....
