Respectfully disagree, there's way too much parameter tweaking going on for something I'd want to throw on every channel. Give me an SSL bus comp and an 1176, I've got work that needs to be done.

I don't know if it would be possible for Dave to setup a user based mod and preset exchange on the website.

This is very much the idea. When you find some settings that give you what you need, stash some Mods, so that when you open the plug, you can just grab the Mod that gives you the character you need, and off you go. :)

In general day-to-day, unless your music is ABOUT the tweaking, it's not expected you'll have the "advanced" panel open. Mods are explicitly the solution to that. They're different to presets, so there IS a learning curve, though hopefully not too steep a curve, but they HAVE to be different to presets to give you what you need.

Mod/preset sharing of some kind does seem quite inevitable, and once I fix this round of bugs, we'll be updating the DMGAudio site. ;)

Maybe it will be worth thinking about doing a more simple version of Compassion as a future plugin. Something where the users have a few circuits (mods) to choose from based on some classic compression types, then just controls for Attack, Release, Threshold, Input Gain, and Output Gain with oversampling options.

You could charge half of what Compassion costs and offer an upgrade to the full version, while giving users of the full version the "LE" plugin as a thanks.

Just a thought. I downloaded and installed Compassion yesterday and will begin my demo after I get my coffee and watch this Chelsea/Tottenham game.

well, there ARE lots of parameters to tweak, but do you NEED to tweak them all? if it sounds good, it sounds good.
check out the 'mod' button (if you haven't done that already). this gives you various compressor section building blocks.
i bet it has models of those you mention inside, although Dave might not admit it for legal reasons.....

but in the end :

use whatever feels best, disregard the rest.....

That precise thought may have crossed my mind... we'll see. Bugs first, planning new plugins second. ;)

I think this is not the goal of such a compressor. We had in the past similar ideas (Voxengo Marquis) which get not much attention (but to be honest for Voxengo it has also something to do with the ugly interfaces).

But the idea is more to have a "universal compressor" and give talented users the parameters to tweak them to their needs.
With Compassion it goes to a higher level, because of the parameter set provided and the option to save/load this set as a "mod".
The preferred operation mode for most users is (IMHO) to have the advanced options closed and use some provided modes for the basic character.

Interesting could be also "analogue modelled" blocks. It would be interesting to have something like the Sonalksis SV 315 but with the advanced options of a universal compressor ;)

I understand the design ethos. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a very well designed plugin by somebody who definitely knows a thing about solid dsp.

I was responding to the "one compressor to rule them all" there's always going to be a place for the set and forget type compressors like SSL's, 1176's etc.

Agreed, however, the way my somewhat OCD-leaning mind works, if the knobs are there I am going to investigate them, hence preferring to use simpler arrangements. I never jived with Flux stuff either, just too much parameters "angels share" "hysteresis" etc... (i know they are important parameters, but... i just don't need that level of control)

You're not one of those fools who wants to finish projects instead of tweaking processors ???? Blasphemy :x

it is important to wring every last quarter ounce of sound quality out of a wave file before pouring it into a lossy codec of your choice though.... :?

REVERSE HI-JACK;

great comp !! :D
Financial solvency and KVR Mix as well as oil and water.

So the real problem is your OCD, not COMPassion...

Yes, but I think it's sure that such a compressor is not a replacement for all other compressors ;) I would never sell my UAD LA2A ;) This "set and forget" thing of such plug-ins is of course the most important thing.

But there is a niche where you need a transparent compressor with some more options. There are only some VST3 compressors having a good response/transfer curve so they are usable/good sounding for ducking. IMHO the only compressor was Fabfilter Pro-C. Compassion is now new on the table also for such stuff and its cheaper then Pro-C :P

Dave, I went to demo Compassion and the demo has "EXPIRED" already. Surely it hasn't been 30 days.

Anyone else have this problem?

I previously had an expired demo of EQuality on my system, but have since bought the other. Is it possible your demo system is somehow confusing the two?

This is on Win7 64-bit BTW.

Have you used the mailed regkey to activate the demo?

Of course I did. What do you take me for? Some kind of fool?

[As I rush off to go to do that now.]

Yep...I'm an idiot. Don't mind me.
