That is still not going to convince me. I hardly use gates and if i do its just to keep out some artifacts or to tighten ip a loop. I can do that just fine with al the other gates available. I guess they will add a nice display so you can visually see what the gate is doing...

Great. Fabfilter makes good plugins, which are very usefull. I was tempted by the golden gate, but then Kjaerhus disapeared. The Sonalksis gate is too expensive. If it can compete with the UAD 88rs gate, then I'm game.

I'm always interested in a new FF product, but... Can anybody help me out and explain other (maybe more creative) uses for a gate other than cutting audio at a certain threshold or time interval? As far as I know, that is all a gate really does. Very simple tool, right?

U're wright, but...
as we know every gate just like every compressors can have it's own "character"
This is because of signal detection differences, gating curves, sidechaining possibilities etc.
one of the most popular creative ways of using it is putting a gate after the reverb

Somewhat disappointing unless it does something really freaky for a gate.
Especially if it's on the same price tag like their other stuff from the "Pro" series.
By no means would I pay 150€ for a gate.
Cheers,
Doc

Who says it's a gate? It could be a Pro-Gooderiser ... full of magic pixie dust WIN ...

It seems you didn't even take a look at the suggested ReaGate. I don't see what more you got in Sonalksis and Kjaerhus. ReaGate even has some exclusive features, like wet/dry mix.Liero wrote:I'm unable to use a "pretty capable" gate after kjaerhus golden gate and the sonalksis gate. But I expect that Pro-G will crush all of them and become the gate of all gates.

I'm pretty excited to see what this is all about, TBH. Not only a gate, but also an expander, with FabFilter's creative thinking and excellent GUI on top of that - could be a winner IMO. Knowing those guys, I expect that it will be usable for conventional gating/expanding applications, as well as a creative one (e.g., trance gate effects, triggered by MIDI perhaps). Of course, price will be a big factor.

Sidechaining a gate is way more fun than sidechaining a compressor. I'm hoping gates become more popular, they've been neglected for too long.
You know, Voxengo Voxformer has a really full featured multi-band gate inside. It is truly the king of gates. All kinds of fun can be had by sidechaining/gating certain frequency bands and automating release times.
Anyway, more power to FabFilter. I'm sure they'd like to offer a complete tool set, and any gate they make will be a nice addition.

I hope Fabfilter make a gate plugin, I love everything else by them and I'm in the market for a good gate plugin anyway
