I don't need a mix lock, as I can change the Mix of wet/dry for a plugin in Reaper, which is what I do all the time with plugins that I don't want all wet.
But a highpass would be very good, as I use Reverb as inserts a lot.
So far, I like VR, though. I might even start using it on sends only because of the missing highpass. Even if that means a lot of work. but VR just sounds so good, yummy. But if adding a highpass could be considered, it would make working with VR much more comfortable.

Mix lock can be added without breaking existing projects, as it is UI only. A highpass filter is a change to the algorithms and the parameters, and would break projects for current users.darsho wrote:I don't need a mix lock, as I can change the Mix of wet/dry for a plugin in Reaper, which is what I do all the time with plugins that I don't want all wet.

I've got the version 1.0.4 installers for OSX ready for testing. If anyone wants to try out the demo version, you can download it at
http://www.valhalladsp.com/room/demos/V ... V1_0_4.zip
I'll put it up on the Valhalla DSP website once I get the A-OK from users.
People who have bought ValhallaRoom can PM me or send me an email, and I'll send you a link to the new installer, as well as a link to the old installer in the off-chance that something breaks for you (there shouldn't be anything that breaks, but every person's system is a little bit different, so it is always good to be cautious).
I'm going to work on the PC version of version 1.0.4 for the rest of the day. It shouldn't take too long, but there is always a chance something that works fine in OSX has quirks in Windows.

I figured out that the noise comes from the early modulation. Something to do with when it gets overloaded with (inaudible?) high frequencies it seems? I was able to (unintentionally) reproduce w/ some other synths and sounds beyond ES2 when I was using EQ to boost the high end. The shitty thing is that it pushed the normally comfortable volume way into the red aka highway to the danger zone.
Here's that pad again with more extreme noise as I move the mod settings. The waveform should be relatively flat, but it spikes way up in the middle. http://www.box.net/shared/ouv7qh60yy
I'm actually getting some disgustingly good bitcrushed sounds out of it now(with a limiter), so maybe this is a feature.
No one else has experienced this?
Fun fact: if I use two VRs the first with the early mod off the second won't make the noise. The problem's probably Logic being stupid.

What version are you using? You should try the latest update, and see if the noise is still in there. OK, updated version 1.0.4 demo:
http://www.valhalladsp.com/room/demos/ValhallaRoom DemoOSX_V1_0_4.zip
I had a bug in the tooltips for the Mix lock.
Send me a PM if you are an OSX VRoom user, and you want to try this out (or try this out again). Once people say that it works for them, I'll put the demo link up on the website and send the full link to all users.

The red MIX label above the Mix slider is the Mix Lock button, which is used for determining whether presets change the mix level (unlocked) or whether the mix level stays the same regardless of the preset (locked). When the Mix slider is "locked" the user can still adjust the level by moving the slider or typing in a new value.
The little red triangles to the right of the Preset name scroll backwards and forwards through all the presets. Pretty standard stuff.
Also, typing in the slider/knob values now produces white text against black background, as opposed to the "white on white" which was very useful for keeping your secret values safe, but not the most usable option.
I'm booting over to the Windows partition now, to put these changes in the Windows VSTs.

I have the Windows VST 1.0.4 version available for testing (32/64 bits). The demo can be downloaded from
http://www.valhalladsp.com/room/demos/V ... V1_0_4.zip
For existing ValhallaRoom customers, send me an email or PM, and I'll set you up with a download link to the 1.0.4 version (as well as the 1.0.3 version in case you want to revert to the older version).
The OSX version seems fairly stable, and can be demoed at
http://www.valhalladsp.com/room/demos/V ... V1_0_4.zip
Once I get enough feedback that these versions work, I'll officially launch 1.0.4, and send out emails to all ValhallaRoom customers with the download links.

thank you for answering. It's understandable ! VR is so good, I will simply adjust my workflow according to thisvalhallasound wrote:Mix lock can be added without breaking existing projects, as it is UI only. Quick update: I got Windows RTAS running on my Win 7 system about an hour ago. It is running well in PT 9.0.2. Tomorrow, I'll test it on my XP machine in PT 8.0.4, and then modify my Windows installer code to include. After that, I'll let some beta testers hammer on it.
If you are a Windows VRoom user, and you want to test the RTAS, send me a PM or email, and I'll send you a link when it is ready.

been testing against the demo of 'eareverb'...i seem to be getting similar enough results to be happy to stick with my copy of 'valhallaroom'..
one thing i do like about 'eareverb' is how it seemingly trims the initial highs from the sound, making for a more muted/dark sound (which i like)..playing through them, alternately, with a persian santoor instrument sounded more pleasant in 'eareckon' because of this slight taming of the initial attack...i couldn't seem to replicate this in 'vroom', depite being able to tame the resulting tail to my satisfaction
maybe it is this quality that makes such a difference for the 'ear ' users...i've never been a big reverb user, but am exploring it now...what am i missing (besides a full manual) in 'vroom' to accomplish this effect ??

High frequencies aren't necessarily helpful for reverbs. I think that a big part of the sound of "classic" digital reverbs like the Lexicon 224 and EMT250 is that they have no high frequency energy above 8 kHz. The next generation of digital reverbs made a big deal about having higher sampling rates, but they still would have a sharp cutoff above 15 kHz.ebow wrote:been testing against the demo of 'eareverb'...i seem to be getting similar enough results to be happy to stick with my copy of 'valhallaroom'..

Some suggestions (and I'll get back to work on the manual once I get 1.0.4 officially released):...i've never been a big reverb user, but am exploring it now...what am i missing (besides a full manual) in 'vroom' to accomplish this effect ??
- Turn the High Cut slider down to a lower value than you would think. This is a -12dB/oct filter, so it can go a long ways towards taming the high end.
- Set the Late High Mult to 0.1, and adjust the High Xover to taste. This will allow you to have a much shorter high frequency decay, as well as less highs in the initial decay.
- Set Depth to 100%. The Early section doesn't have as much filtering as the Late section.
- Set Early Size to a value around 70 or more msec, and Early Send to 100%. This will "soften" any transients, in a different manner than cutting out all the high frequencies.

1.02. Will installing the 1.04 demo screw things up for the full version? Ehh, I'll probably just wait for a proper version.valhallasound wrote: What version are you using? You should try the latest update, and see if the noise is still in there. Link to follow in the next post.
Stupid story: I had itunes open at the same time as ValhallaRoom and I imagined the stars n bars motif of the ratings would look handsome flanking either side the VR logo. That's because I think it would look like wings and Marvel comics Thor conditioned me to think of Vikings with feathers sprouting out the side of their head/helmet. On the other hand it makes the logo probably uncomfortably close to the iron eagle

Basically, I just want, nay, demand teeny-tiny, baby angel wings(OMG did Thor kill cherubs?!) coming out of either side of the plugin window. It is also crucial they flutter whimsically in time with side-chain compression.
Thanks again for the awesome software at an awesome price. Do you feel comfortable sharing the amount going to the Red Cross thus far? It's a figure to be proud of I hope? Maybe you could represent it symbolically? An ever longer rainbow bridge?

PM me with your email address you ordered with, and I'll send you a link to the 1.0.4 version. Enough people have tested it on OSX that I feel comfortable sending it to new customers. I'm waiting on the official email until tomorrow, so I can put Windows RTAS into the installer.
I prefer the horned helmet, as far as my Nordic mythology goes. I know that Vikings didn't really wear horned helmets, but Norse gods could wear whatever they wanted. Winged helmets, horned helmets, what have you.Basically, I just want, nay, demand teeny-tiny, baby angel wings(OMG did Thor kill cherubs?!) coming out of either side of the plugin window. I don't want to get into exact numbers, but it is definitely the largest donation amount I have made in my life by far. I just sent them the latest donation - thanks for the reminder. Thanks again for the awesome software at an awesome price. Do you feel comfortable sharing the amount going to the Red Cross thus far?
