Yeah I like being able to play them out of range and looped too those lovely Tron sounds. I like the purist approach as well and to be honest I still like firing up the real thing (was a mistake for me to sell ALL my Chamberlins and might pick up an M1 again if I see one but we have a couple of Mellotrons still). But Squids Tron Collection really packs in musically useful stuff. You can get the whole collection for $89 right now in the other Cinco De Mayo Weekend (really Mother's Day weekend now) thread. That's only going to be that price for another 24 hours or so. More deals being posted over there shortly.

We don't normally work on the weekends (well I do but I own the company so I'm a 24/7 work-o-holic on this and all sorts of music-related things) but I've got some good news. Your esoundz support pal has agreed to take a portion of his Saturday to get everyone their redeem codes for their SECOND free library choice (same list they can choose from) and download this weekend since we reached 200 after the end of the work day yesterday.
Now, please note that we ARE going to be adding an additional product into the list hopefully by the end of this coming week that has exclusive Miroslav Outtakes that were never in Miroslav Philharmonik. These are some cool additional articulations and misc riffs and scraps. Nothing EARTH-SHATTERING but if you are a fan of Miroslav's orchestral samples as I am then you will find this a VERY VERY fun freebie filled with surprises. It will not be something sold separately after this Group Buy (Month) is over so the only way to get it is to choose it with the redeem code WHEN IT IS READY. So, how do you take advantage of that? Simply wait to redeem one of your codes until we announce that it is ready and in the list! Then it can be yours if you joined this group buy.
Another thing, if you purchased more than one IK VI from www.esoundz.com in this group buy then you get a total of 2 redeem codes PER VI you chose! So it's like joining more than once which really is awesome. That means that so far (and only so far because at 300 it can go even higher) if you purchased say Sonik Synth 2 and SampleMoog from esoundz you will be able to get FOUR extra free Sonic Reality SampleTank libraries of your choice!!!!!! If we reach 300 then you'd be able to have SIX! Anyway you can do the rest of the math if you were to get something like say... SampleTank 2.5XL, Sonik Synth 2, Miroslav Philharmonik, SampleTron and SampleMoog!!!!!! (Okay, that'd be 10 free libraries right now and even more if it reaches higher numbers). If you don't have these plug-ins THIS IS DEFINITELY the best time to get them.
Now there's less than a month left here so this is it. Get in or miss out!

Yeah, I kinda miss having access to the real Mellotron too. A studio where I helped out used to have an old M400 that we jokingly called a custom two-tone - wood grain and duct tape. (And of course we had all kinds of running jokes about the Protect-a-Muff.)
All things considered though, having these sounds in SampleTank is much, much better.
For those not familiar with "the real thing", the most common model by far was the M400. It had only 35 keys. You could choose between a whopping THREE sounds, as it held just one tape frame with three-track tape. It seemingly always had mechanical issues, especially if you tried to move it.
That's why I claim the Squids Tron Collection v1 and SampleTron are the best things that ever happened for Tron-heads. You can get several gigs of samples made from actual tape frames from the actual instruments.
For $99, it's a steal. A single tape frame for the M400 costs $250 by itself.
And the usual reminder... SampleTron is for Tron freaks. If you're one of the addicts, you know it. For you, the SampleTron and Squids Tron Exclusive Extras are absolute screaming must-have products.
For everyone else out there, Sonik Synth has a nice representation of Tron sounds in its huge library. You get enough Mellotron to meet the needs of nearly any sane person, plus you get nearly every other instrument under the sun.
So while I absolutely love the SampleTron library and believe Squids should get a Nobel Prize for creating Squids Tron Collection v1, I still recommend that most of you steer away from SampleTron and go for Sonik Synth instead.

And thanks to Acronym for the epointz!
My emails have been kind of spotty lately, so thanks as well to anyone else who might have referred me without the email notification coming through. (I know there's at least one, because an extra 2 epointz showed up in my account today, but no email telling me who I have to thank.)

Sale Alert !!!
It's not part of the group buy, but I doubt Squids will mind the interruption to his group buy thread, as I'm tipping everyone off to another esoundz sale on other SampleTank format libraries.
The Squids Rare Instruments vol 1 (electronic)
http://www.esoundz.com/details.php?ProductID=1993
and vol 2 (acoustic)
http://www.esoundz.com/details.php?ProductID=1992
are both on sale this weekend only. The sale prices are $49 each. But the kicker is that you can also enter "CINCO15" as a coupon code (also this weekend only) to take an additional $15 off your order.
One small downside is that the coupon code overrides using epointz - at first it shows the epointz being used, but when you get to the final screen to review and confirm your order, it takes the $15 off instead.
So you end up having a choice. The sale price is good either way, and from there you can either knock $15 off the cash price or use epointz.
And I still haven't had any emails coming through, so thanks again to those who have referred me for epointz. Much appreciated!

Are the sounds found on the "Vintage Keys Collection SampleTank Expansion" the same or very similar as the sounds on the"Squids Rare Instruments vol 1".
The reason I ask is i am considering getting 'sonic synth 2' with a couple of the free instruments, but then came this other offer. Aaaggghhh!! Squids why do you do this to me!

Thanks - You've "made me" buy Vol 1 to add to SampleTron and the Squids Extras for it - It really is a great time of the year for buying these sounds!!torgo wrote:Sale Alert !!!

The only instrument that I can see that is included in both the Squids Rare Instruments (electronic) and Vintage Keys is the Fender KeyBass.
I'm not sure yet if it's the same parent sample. I'm away from the computers that have the instrument files at the moment, so I can't do a full file comparison.
Squids Rare Instruments (Electronic) goes mainly for synths, but does include some other keyboards (and even a few strings, like the Fender Broadcaster and Chapman Stick). The bulk of it though is synth stuff - Voyetra, Sidstation, OSCar, EMU and Serge modulars, Waldorf Wave, etc.
It has ARP 2500, but I haven't compared it with the SampleARP collection for repeats.
The main thing I could tell you about it is that it adds yet more historical (and a few otherwise forgotten) instrument sounds to your collection. If you're collecting sounds from yesteryear, it's a must have. Where else are you going to get samples from the SidStation, OSCar, and Serge Modular?
For everyone else, many of the sounds would be a mere novelty - fun to noodle around with, but you're not likely to use those 8-bit SidStation sounds or theremin samples too often in your everyday musical endeavours.
There's enough musically useful stuff here (Chapman Stick, Fender Broadcaster, and synth and other keyboard sounds) to be worth the sale price though.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Vintage Keys collection is weighted heavily towards electric pianos, particularly in terms of file sizes. The "big three" are:
Yamaha CP70 = 192 meg parent sample
Rhodes EP88 = 163 meg
Wurlitzer EP = 110 meg
It also has a pair of Hammond B3 parent samples, Roland VP-330 vocoder strings and choir sounds, Fender KeyBass, RMI ePiano, a small CP80 sample (similar to one in Sonik Synth but might not be an exact duplicate), Hohner Clavinet D6 (which I think is also a repeat parent sample from Sonik Synth but with different effects settings) and some other stuff - including a few 'Tron items (probable repeats) and a couple of ARP sounds that I know are repeats from SampleARP Solo. There's also something called "confusitar". I don't know what retro synth that was taken from.
Hands down, the big reason to go for Vintage Keys would be for the assortment of electric pianos and Hammond B3, especially the *outstanding* Rhodes and CP70.
If electric pianos aren't your thing, go with other collections instead.
Torgo, thanks for the information about Vintage Keys, I was just about to post a question about that one as it's one of the libraries on my list to consider for my freebies. I'm kind of stuck at the moment as I got most of my "must haves" in the group buy last year, so nothing's jumping out at me right now except the Miroslav outtakes. I think my choices are going to be about exploring outside my comfort zone, always a good thing to do!
By the way, you should be getting some epointz from me. I goofed and put down your KVR name instead of your esoundz name when I checked out, but I emailed Allen, so I'm sure he'll sort things out.
I did my order some hours to early to check whether it could work, damn…torgo wrote:But the kicker is that you can also enter "CINCO15" as a coupon code (also this weekend only) to take an additional $15 off your order.
